Definitely lack the urgency and incisiveness in our first 45 generally
Don't know if you saw what Ange said re sluggish starts but he was asked about them yesterday:
Are the sluggish starts from the team one of those things or a trend?

I get it, it's kind of interesting when you take a snapshot. But I reckon we've had it all this year: We've scored early, we've scored late. We've conceded early, we've conceded late. We've scored from set pieces, we've conceded from set pieces. We've defended well, we've not defended well. Mate, it's just a season of football, particularly for a team like us which is very much trying to build something.

Trends for me are something which happen over a longer period of time and something which become endemic. I see absolutely no difference between winning 3-1 and scored three goals in the first 15 minutes than scoring three goals in the last 15 minutes. For some reason, it seems to be more convincing if you score early and are comfortable after that whereas if you score late it tends to navigate towards you having a struggle. But if you look at trends historically, from the first year I managed, all my teams score late goals. It's sort of the game model. So if anything that's tilting towards more of the team we want to be.

I wonder if to some degree that is deliberate ? It allows us to contain the opposition when they are at their most intensive and then this tires them. In the second half we are then fitter/stronger than the opposition and are able to attack them better. It is IMO what happened against Crystal Palace.
Understand your point and quite often see city go up a few gears second half. Also get transition of us as a team but we lack conviction whereas other teams doing the same they don’t look as in danger as we do. The chart on dangerous opportunities shows this and vic being so amazing is our difference. Our overall play isn’t convincing during these times

Like that he has said we need a good few signings this summer. I think 5-6 and we should have a squad pretty close to what he needs to compete on all fronts but it’ll probably take next summer and the following Jan to really get close to exactly where we need to be.

I can see Ange wanting a more appropriate back/up GK, a better back-up RB than Emerson, a 4th CB now Dier has gone, a CM upgrade on PEH/Skipp, 2 more attacking players (Werner and at least one more ideally a RW or striker).

Im not sure I agree completely with Agne on the early/late goals thing.

Surely you want to score earlier rather than later. I mean the longer time goes on the more chance of us running out of time to score (see West Ham, Villa and Wolves games)

And, particularly at home, scoring earlier upsets the oppositions game plan and could open the game up more which would suit us against low blocks.

Minute 6 love how he keeps ribbing the journos saying they’re pigeonholing us into a race for 4th and not the title, we all know the title is almost impossible but love to see our manager always daring and dreaming and being cheeky and ambitious and positive.

It lays the foundations for hopefully future success

But it's better to score goals later when teams can't come back. As long as we're not going behind too often or by more than a goal. There was bit of criticism early in the season where we started strong but looked to gas out a bit towards the end. Now we seem to be more measured early so we have the energy to finish strong. It's better to be strong finishers than starters. Obviously ideally you want to be both.

Thats what i mean. We want to aim for both but should look to improve on how we start games.

"Get excited? why not," added Postecoglou. "The supporters, if they don't get excited by a performance and result like that, in what was a significant game...you've got to enjoy that.

"It means we're one game closer, with just 11 games to go. Everyone was billing this as a do-or-die for us. I assume we're not dead yet."

(From the Beeb)

He just so gets it. I'm simply amazed from week to week how well he handles the media. No games. No hysteria. Just common sense and in touch with the fan base and players. Does any other manager come close in this regard?
