Funny to find James down on Page Two after a game like today's! One thing I think is really worth mentioning is how well he led the press today. He was really high and often ahead of Sonny when it came to defending from the front and he did it all match long really effectively.

Good news for Maddison. Straight back into the England squad. Hopefully gets some decent minutes against quality opposition.

I'd be happy for just a few minutes, less risk for injury.

But, I suspect Maddison's role is dependent on where Southgate plays Bellingham.

If Bellingham plays deeper - with Rice, then Maddison behind Kane makes a lot of sense. But if Bellingham plays that role, there won't be room for many minutes for Maddison.

Yeh I think that's about right, though I can see Maddison getting a full half in at least one of the games which is fine as we need him ticking over.

I agree he wasn't great today but his games revolves around other players getting hold of the game first, and that never happened

let's be honest he's been mediocre in all games since coming back from injury

hugely disappointing, little signs of the penetrative through balls or evasive first touches he was regularly doing before the injury

Thought GLC did more in his 10 minutes than Madds and Kulu did all day. No movement, no penetrating passes, too slow moving ball left us a man short in the midfield where we got owned.

It feels like sometimes we have too many players whose games depend on the games of others so we get stuck in this sort of shit catch 22.

I'm surprised Southgate picked him, given he's out of form and has never been one of his favourites. I suppose the goal against Villa helped. His chance today was the closest we got, but he's essentially playing off the striker now rather than running games from midfield like before. It's disappointing. Ange obviously has no time for GLC, so we need some proper competition here next season. One of the Palace lads would be the dream.

Not likely to happen, Ange don’t seem to fancy GLC for some reason. He should have been on a lot earlier today.

Doesn’t fancy him? I’m not sure how you came to that conclusion since the bloke is out injured most of the time.

Is he in danger of loosing his starting place ? Not (yet) the player he was before his injury.

I think he would be if we had proper competition. But we don’t because GLC is the only other senior player who can play that role and GLC doesn’t seem able to stay fit. It’s a pity because GLC is a great for our system but you can’t really rely on players who are regularly unavailable.

I'd be careful making comparisons like this. Fulham 3 up were coasting for GLC's time on the pitch.

Yeah, you can’t compare like for like when a game is wrapped up. You have to compare players when matches are still competitive. It’s nice to see a player coming on and doing well but the context matters too.

Really? Thought he’s fit for the last couple of weeks, he’s clearly not the first option for ange, otherwise he would have come on for Maddison, we were 3 nil down since 60 and he wasn’t called upon until 86, that doesn’t suggest ange had much faith in him.
