Playing style under Ange is splitting opinion but he is right to prioritise growth over top four

Ange Postecoglou repeated his belief that a top-four finish is not the priority in the wake of Tottenham's 3-0 loss to Fulham on Saturday. "I don't see fourth as the prize," said the Spurs boss. "I don't want to finish fourth if we haven't grown as a team."

Splitting opinion in the media, not among the fans, who I think are overwhelmingly in favour of our new style (while also recognising that it's a work in progress).

Except for the idiots on Twatter. There are many on there who want Ange out. Crazy.

I'm happy so far this year with the progress particularly in light of injuries, suspensions and afcon/Asian cup.

Last week though was incredibly frustrating after the Villa win. But that is going to happen, even to the best of teams.

When you consider Arteta finished 8th two seasons in a row (admittedly with an FA cup) and you see how the @rse are performing now, patience is the key. Ange is a great coach and it takes time to change.

Although Arsenal won the FA Cup three times in the six seasons before Arteta joined. It had become their thing. Think about that- three times in just six seasons- whereas we’ve won it just eight times in about 140 years!

So then they won it again in his first half season and nothing since.

If they don’t win anything this year, it will be their longest run without winning a trophy since 2012-13- back when Saka was eleven or twelve.

One could argue that Arteta has overseen a period of relative decline for Arsenal- at least in terms of winning stuff. Unless they win something this year.

This is the point Ange is constantly making though. A trophy win isn’t the be-all and end-all in terms of what he’s trying to achieve.
Arteta won’t be concerned about periods of time between trophies; he has built them up from finishing 8th to challenging for the league, that’s more important.

I agree. The point I was trying to make is that from an Arsenal’s fan perspective the last three or four years have been difficult, especially compared to what they have been used to.

So I think we should be mindful of that and remind ourselves that these apparently big fundamental problems we see after a defeat are maybe not system problems, or tactical problems etc but but just stuff we need to keep working at.

Just a general comment and not aimed at you but people really need to do some simple arithmetic in their heads when they look at things like this. Even if there were hundreds of fans calling for his head on Twitter we have literally millions of fans in total.

So just as a simple example if there were 100 people calling for his head on Twitter and we had a million fans, that would be 1 fan in every 10,000, and would mean that 9,999 out of every 10,000 fans weren't calling for his head.

I saw a comment about 3 Arsenal fans getting charged with tragedy chanting and somebody replied that 99% of their fans were silent and 1% were morons. But they get 60,000 fans at every home game so it's actually 99.995% of their fans are silent and 0.005% are tragedy-chanting morons.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we're never going to live in a perfect world where there are no idiots, and people need to get some perspective about just how insignificant a handful are in the grand scheme of things.

Arsenal fans, like the rest of us, need to remember we're battling with City for trophies in this country at the moment. To beat City to a league you have to basically have a video game-esque faultless season and hope they drop more points than they do normally. While City are around in their current state. they're not getting back to the Wenger years of dominance any time soon.

With that said, Arteta, for his weird demeanour and all his antics, has done a great job with them up to now.
