Just someone to hold it up. Watkins plays on the shoulder and we don't play enough balls in behind. Better to have a hold up man in kane with toney deputising

Why is Lewis Dunk there? He's 32 but it's not like he brings experience or great skill or anything, just a bang average defender. Give the chance to younger players

Dunk isn’t international standard. Appreciate he’s only playing because of injuries, but he shouldn’t be anywhere near an England shirt

This is what is so annoying about Southgate. He picks someone we know isn’t good enough (with predictable results) rather than seeing if someone like braithwaite actually might be good enough

CB is where England actually have some pretty decent depth. There’s no excuse for him to be picking Dunk who has had a pretty rank season at Brighton.

He's also just outpaced Bowen on a recovery tackle too.

It's not really working for Foden yet.
Bowen has looked good but so far, Mainoo has been the stand-out for me.
Really impressed by him so far.

Toney is a better back-up to Kane than Watkins for certain. Bowen has similar attributes to Saka, so works as a decent replacement. Konsa looks decent, and Mainoo is an improvement on Gallagher.

No idea why Dunk is playing, other than Southgate needing someone to look ungainly and give away a goal in the absence of Maguire.

Scott summed that up really well there, most of midfielders would have played safe but Mainoo showed the vision and instinct to push forward, creating a great chance.
