Yep.
But in possession is seriously worrying me right now. Earlier in the season we were taking risks, playing round the press and making angles.
Today (& Fulham) was horrible. Nervous, slow, hospital passes from the back that invariably gave the ball back to the oppo within seconds.

We’ve sort of accepted we’ll concede goals but the flip side was we’ll score a helluva lot. Right now, we look more open than ever at the back but somehow much weaker offensively.

I remember a Maddison interview where he said he can’t play his natural game with Udogie and Porro tucked in, taking up the space he normally moves into.

In addition to this, early season Udogie was roaring down the wing whereas now he runs so far, stops and lays the ball off. Whereas Porro has a brilliant cross on him yet we rarely get to see it these days.

The whole set up feels like an abject failure and only significant investment and a change is approach is going to rectify it.

I'm gonna negged to fuck for this.

I think we need to consider moving Sonny on. He's not a 9 we know that from years of seeing him as Kanes back up. I don't think he's as quick as he once was and not as effective running up and down the wing going missing more than he's showing up. Next season we should be looking to sign a number 9 and a LW Making by the end of next year Son movable. I love Son and would be happy for him to stay but the conversation needs to be had about moving forward. I would rather him go tear it up in La Liga for few years than sitbon our bench because of how incredible he's been for our football club.

Worth more in marketing and bums on seats revenue than he is to team. At least currently.

I got up at 5 to watch that before work. Wished I’d had 2 hours extra sleep.😥
I got up an hour earlier. Performance matched the kit - it was all a bit eartha kitt. Cherry on the cake at the end was Hojbjerg's slide-rule pass to his invisible friend. I almost applauded.

Totally this, low block basically takes all of our forwards out of the game
Newcastle didn't play a simple low block against us. They swarmed all over us in our box during kick outs. We just stood fucking still hoping they'd go away because our lot are so cocky they think they can just walk the ball up the field.

Newcastle actually had a plan in and out of possession and it was not a dumb low block. They were quite dynamic. Our lot just want the ball for a sideways jolly, while dubravka was having tea and biscuits in his box waiting for someone to drop in.

I've just watched it back and I think it was more to do with poor performance of the players than the tactical setup .

There are things that concern me, like the set piece marking, the apparent lack of leadership in certain situations, the slow pace at which we build. But they should be able to be remedied

Well I’m all for giving the players a rest and it’s a good idea to just let them stroll around until the end of the season

As Ange said the other week, our title challenge comes next season 💪

Still agree. But where is our answer when the 6 and the 10 is not up to scratch?
With both fullbacks tucked in and we are basically 2-1-7 in attack/transition we are very vulnerable, and Newcastle exploited this.
We are in a position where we need all 11 to be 100% all the time, no other team needs that. That's where I think we are too naive.

We have had poor games earlier, and good games we have lost. In all those games we have showed some sort of intent, today we showed none. That is my main grip. If we had lost 4-0, and thinking we might should have had a couple of goals, fine. But today 4-0 was a fair result, we didn't show up at all, and did not show any evidence of having progressed as a team.
That is going to happen though, there are games where the players just don't perform.

The only teams who don't do that are title winners.

We have dug in this season and turned games around so I'm not too worried about that.

I genuinely think the issue is players come up against certain systems and they don't have the answer.

Thats when better quality and rotation comes in.

But also perfecting the system.

Most games you need everyone to be on it in the PL.

A bit of an old man shouting at a cloud thing to say, but why the fuck don’t these dullards wear the correct boots? Last week they were slipping around like they were wearing roller skates and same again this week costing us goals and giving up chances

Depends.

Some clubs heavily water the pitch.

So a player turns up with his boots expecting a similar surface he is used to only for the pitch to be drier or wetter.

They only find out when they've slipped so have to change boots at HT.

Insane innit. Less than a season in with a new manager, new recruitment team, new signings, sitting 5th - and now we have ripping it all up and start again?

Now I know why rival fans mock us so much
- the entitlement is off the scale 😂

Not a chance. I just sat and watched Man City from 10 rows behind their bench and there’re miles ahead of us!

It’s nothing to do with entitlement. We all expected bumps in the road, more so early season with gradual progress as the season went on. However, after an above expectations start we’ve started to go backwards at a rate of knots. Ange’s tactics have been figured out and the opposition are nullifying it with ease. Our high press, energetic football, creating chances for fun and solid defence has gone out of the window.

For a team with a quality keeper, one of the most highly rated young left backs, a very good right back, a World Cup winner centre back and a potentially world class young centre in VDV, we should under no circumstances have conceded 49 goals to date. At the rate we’re going (given the upcoming fixtures), we’ll end up conceding more than last season.

In midfield we lack dominance. Chances created have dried up and the team seem more content with passing to each other than having a shot on goal.

Possession wise we’ve been dominating the opposition but creating next to nothing and dropping points at an alarming rate. It’s not good enough.

Regardless of tactics, it's tiring to see how hapless our players are when we're under the cosh. Just the basics of tightening up and making sure you stop conceding cheap chances in order to get a foothold again and play back into it. We just seem to look around moaning at each other, and not actually change behaviour to back each other up. Vicario had nobody to play out to because they were so static. And newcastle's interceptions always looked dangerous and unimpeded. They had purpose in possession and we had none.

The leadership in this team needs a real look at themselves. Just rolling over isn't acceptable.

How do you press, particularly counter press, when you've got 8 players well in front of the ball and then lose it?

If we're going to play possession football, we need to slow down the build up, have some players behind the ball, pin teams back and learn how to play through in tight spaces.
That suggests playing someone that can find space, receive the ball and execute a pass. Only player that looks capable of that is GLC but he doesn’t play.

Honestly, the overreaction in here is something to behold :D

We're getting exactly what we wanted, what we asked for and what we need, but oh no, god forbid there's bumps on the way or things don't go as smoothly as we'd like at times. Some people are just so fucking impatient and entitled that the form it takes is verging on the poisonous and is, quite frankly, a bit embarrassing.
