But we were a better team than Zagreb. A defeat doesn't change that.
No one's saying we're guaranteed to win it if we give it a proper go, but if we're in it, we have a chance to win it and we'll be among the favourites to do so.
I have seen absolutely nothing from us that suggests we would be one of the favourites for the Europa League.

We haven't exactly blown teams out of the water in cup competitions this season.

We struggle with low block teams, which is going to be pretty much every team in the group stage.

We'd look especially vulnerable to Italian sides who love to sit back and play on the counter.

Nonetheless, as one of the better sides in the competition, we will be one of the favourites. Liverpool were overwhelming favourites this year, and now they're headed out. It's difficult to win knockout competitions.

Europa League will not have champ lge teams dropping down next season so will not be as strong.

If you told me the day before the season started when Kane's move to Bayern was announced that we'd be in touch with 4th in April I would have laughed my head off. I thought 5th at best, 7th at worst.

Even if we have been poor recently, this season as a whole has shown a stark improvement upon last season. Whether it's 4th or 5th, Champions or Europa League, I am happy with how this season has gone overall. I have seen enough to be positive about with hopefully a good summer and the likes of Bergvall to come in. We can push on again next year.
The season isn’t dead just because of a couple of bad defeats. Villa were battered by us at home. Stuffed 4-1 at City. 3-3 at home with Brentford, their defence looked wirse than ours. Then they turn up with that performance yesterday. I think Richy will improve us , get Sonny back on the left. Still all to play for.

And if you told me the day before the season started when Kane's move to Bayern was announced that we'd be within three points of 4th in April and Kane's team would have been 16 points from the top and watching another team in the Bundesliga win the title already I would have called for the men in white coats to whisk you away!

I think 4-5th place would be great if we think back that many where betting that we would get relegated after we sold Kane. I however betted that we would get top 4 after that when the odds where 5.0. So i really would like 4th but for Ange first season 5th would be fine as well.

The good chances we had were mostly when the game was over at 3-0, so the xg stats will probably highly reflect that.

Not that I know how xg fully works as I don't pay attention to it. But hey, if you want to argue that it was a performance where we looked like scoring because of a flurry when we were 3-0 down, that's fine by me 👍

I'm not at all. From memory it was a bad game but I do recall we had chances to score albeit the better ones when it was too late

Yeah I think there were like, 1 or 2 half chances in the first half where the ball went out wide to Johnson and he hit a tame effort at the keeper. And then the rest when we were 3-0 down. Didn't produce when it mattered really and there was probably an element of Fulham relaxing as they knew the game was done too. Similar to the Brighton game in which I wouldn't really want to credit us for creating chances and scoring, because it came in a period where the game was over and it didn't make up for the terrible football that preceded and had us 4-0 down.

with our run in we will be strong favourites to lose 4 of the 6 games. I can see at least 1 of the teams from man u Newcastle and even Chelsea overtaking us possibly even 2 of them

Really?
if we were to get 6 points from our last 6 games that would mean Newcastle, United or Chelsea would have to win all their remaining games to catch us, and that’s only if we get 6.
Plus United and Newcastle play each other.
Absolutely no chance we get caught by anyone behind us.

Me too. I put £20 at 5-1 on us to finish 4th after the Brentford game. Only a week ago they were offering me £77 to cash out. Was planning to see what happened this weekend and totally assumed Arse would beat Villa

Funnily enough - we'll see how it goes but I can see Liverpool really dropping away now and wouldn't be at all surprised to see them catchable by the 4th place team at some point. Their next 4 games are away from home, starting with Atalanta Thurs and Fulham Sunday

I agree in general. At the beginning of the season most of us would have been happy with top 6 and some improvement in our play.

However, sometimes in football opportunities present themselves. The top 3 have been very good but Chelsea and Utd have been poor. Villa have been decent but have been struggling with squad strength while doing well in the ECL.

We've been knocked out in the early rounds in the domestic cups so only had to concentrate on the league. There is some disappointment that we haven't been able to push forward a little more in the league.

Completely agree. I did a fairly negative prediction for the final 6 games and had us finishing on 68 points in 5th, still 6 points ahead of United in 6th. It would realistically take them or Newcastle to win out to finish above us, and that isn't going to happen.

Yeah I usually get over-excited with predictions so I did a relatively negative one this time. Only bad news is Villa finish 4 points above us.

Agree. Think we will limp over the line to 5th and all become experts on coefficiency by the end of the season.

The worrying part about this 5th place stuff is that if Arsenal knock out Bayern tomorrow night, that will probably seal it for England. We will prob have 3 teams left and the Germans one . City will play Arsenal if both get through. That will guarantee 5 pts for England . Leverkusen can only get 5 max. Villa can get the extra pts to clinch it for England.

So why’s that worrying?

What would guarantee top 5?
2 wins?
As we’re 10 points clear of 6th.

3 wins.

Newcastle could win their remaining 6 matches. They are hitting some form and have no distractions. We saw last season how effective they can be with 1 game/week.
