You’re deluded if you think the Chelsea players gives a toss about whether they play Spurs or Arsenal. Perhaps the atmosphere is a bit better against us, but that’s marginal.
This Chelsea team is abysmal, and all you have to do is come out aggressively against them and you’ll get your chances...
Thanks, this clarifies it somewhat. Kane’s goal should clearly be disallowed according to these criteria.
I don’t really see the point of the rule though. Are they under the impression that playing the ball backwards so that it bounces off a defender and forward to your offside team mate is...
I would agree if the biggest problem with offsides without VAR is that they’re missed. I’ve rarely been super upset with a goal that was allowed even though it was a few cm offside.
What’s worse though is you’d have the inevitable goals which are incorrectly disallowed due to a non-existing...
Yup. Haven’t really celebrated a goal in years. A goal is rather a slow and steady rising of the mood that only really settles a few minutes after the opposing team kick-off.
Maybe I’m stupid, but I still see a massive grey area there. Do you have to make an attempt to play the ball with your feet or head? No sane defender in this defenders situation would not make an attempt to play the ball out to a corner in that situation.
I stand corrected- apparently the ball doesn’t have to be played forward to be offside. What matters is the ”intention” of the defender deflecting it to the receiver. Very strange, if you ask me. What does any intention have to do with it, and how is it determined?
Ball was played backwards. It’s never an offside. One of the very few times we can say VAR was definitely wrong - I honestly don’t think the refs in the VAR room considered it.
Said it before and I’ll say it again. Red cards need to change. Any game where a player gets a red before the 65th minute is dead. It’s not reasonable that a game (and by extension the future of a football club/national team) can be decided by the whims of one player. Add to that, it’s usually...
Nah. First of all, those metrics would make it impossible for some teams, especially smaller teams, to win anything. Denmark will never have more possession and shots on target when playing England. That doesn’t mean they can’t defend masterfully and thoroughly deserve a victory anyway...
Bar Germany, I’m quite convinced England could’ve thrashed every team they’ve faced this tournament had Southgate had a less pragmatic, more Mancini-esque approach and trusted the attacking ability of his players. If we’re honest, a combined 11 of the two teams today would’ve starred far more...
As a neutral, the only decision that I found truly wrong was the yellow for Jorginho. Was a clear red for me. Other than that, he was sometimes overly hesitant to call fouls but he was at least somewhat consistent in that regard, and it made the game miles more fun to watch without free kicks...
Bar a few instances, the ref’s been really consistent and determined not to award soft free kicks or penalties. People might moam about a decision here and there but this makes for a much better flow of play. I love it tbh.
