Ange Postecoglou remained defiant and insisted Tottenham were on the path to being “a very good football team” despite a 2-1 home loss to Aston Villa consigning them to a third consecutive defeat.

It was widely predicted that there'd be a few bumps along the way. What wasn't predicted was that we'd get off to a flyer with the best football we've seen for years. The current lull probably seems worse than it is as a result, but we're not playing bad at all and have been hugely hampered by injuries and suspensions. The suspensions are a learning curve and a message to Levy to loosen the purse strings in January. No reason at all to think we won't be very strongly in the mix for a CL place or a good run in the FA Cup. Onwards and upwards.

Fan mood is very much like a pendulum and based on momentum and contrast and very little about context.

Would it have been better had we had these defeats interspersed with our wins ? or have the raised expectations made these defeats harder to take

I think the fact we got off to such a flyer and saw immediate results to his style of play is the reason he is still here. If we were getting battered since August he would have been long gone. I believe with proper investment we will be up there next season

I'd hope that people would realise that these results have coincided with some extremely adverse circumstances. We've also had 3 games where we dominated early on and should have been out of sight before things turned bad. I'm not in the least bit concerned at how we're playing. My only concern is 1) how bad is Bentancur's injury, 2) how long will VdV be out and 3) has our forward line's confidence taken any sort of a knock with the amount of chances that have gone begging.

Defeat was easier for me to take yesterday with the performance and context of how many and who were missing.

Agree but i doubt Levy will ever learn he hasn't any other season unfortunately.

I think he'll do it this time. The feel good factor under Ange is quite extraordinary after years of negative, cowardly football. He must know that the knives will be back out for him (fully sharpened) if he sits on his hands again.

I nearly gave up my ST last year. Zero enjoyment for huge prices. Now I cant wait to get over "The Lane" . If he is not backed and fails I will not renew again. Whats the point

I wasn’t expecting much, especially seeing as Levy has screwed up nearly every decision he’s made. I’m happy with the football we play and Ange has far exceeded my expectations so far. Despite the losses, we actually seemed to manage well without our key players. The players that came in, lack competitive football, yet still we played better than when we had Maureen and Conte here with a full squad.

COYS!!

For the last 5 years I was desperate for exciting, expansive football. I wasn't bothered about league positions or results much. The fact that we started the season with that AND we were winning games, and that we've still been attacking and stayed competitive when the squad has been absolutely decimated can only be a massive positive for the manager. Anyone criticising the results needs to get their head checked. I don't think any manager does better with the defenders we have available.

I actually enjoyed the game yesterday. Disappointed with the result, but not the game.

Hope so time will tell. He be a fool if he doesn't back Ange as he is the real deal and suits to a tee.

So basically the reason he's still here is because he's doing a fantastic job? :) Of course if we'd been getting battered for a third of the season he'd likely be gone.

But I agree with your general sentiment and that with the right transfer activity we could really do something next season.

I think we're ahead of schedule in our transition back to attacking, positive football.

Yeah 100% he is doing a bang up job in my opinion, I am thankful he had such a good start because I would hate to have seen him turfed out if we started bad then hit this bad run. Sorry my mind has been real fuzzy lately so I am not making the most sense these days

No apology needed! I entirely agree. I'm glad we've had a good taste of what he can do here before the inevitable crisis hit us.

It was impressive how well we played against an almost full strength Villa with about ten first teamers out. With better finishing we'd have buried them by half time.
