This old git is slipping .. Today is the 49th anniversary of the 2nd Leg of the EUFA Cup final at WHL (It was EUFA back then not the later known UEFA Cup)

Having won the first leg 2-1 at Molyneux with a couple of goals from Big Chiv we drew 1-1 with a header from Alan Mullery and won our 2nd European trophy.

I was still at school then, a 16 year old handsome young lad.

49yrs....wow!

I remember that season well: It started and ended with Wolves (2-2) in the 1st lge match of the season at Molyneux (I recall a terrific cloudburst just before KO), and of course ended at WHL in the 2nd leg of the Uefa final against the same opposition.

Despite living in South Manchester, I must have attended about 50% of our games that season (sometimes hitch-hiking, sometimes 'jumping' the train, but usually my dad driving) and included both legs of the Semi-final (inc the San Siro) and of course the two final ties.

Talk about player burnout, Martin Chivers played in all 64 games that season (44 goals), the season after 61 games (33 goals).
