Looks like we tried to do similar deal last year with Bellingham

Good thing that didn't happen.

This appears to be a good signing. Didn't actually realise there was a transfer thread on him.

From the couple of games I've seen of him he's a deep lying playmaker, and we usually don't have those, and he seems to hold the midfield and get around pitch well. Also likes to stick a foot in and seems to take the ball well so we'll see how he gets on.

Inevitably when we make a signing, like with Tracey, the players gets put on a pedestal and people periodically take more interest in them and expectation grows as a result. He's essentially just another talented academy player like Mathurin for example, we've picked up opportunistically; if Wigan weren't struggling he wouldn't be here. Out of him and Geldhart though I'd say Devine has a better chance of coming through and is more needed so it's a good signing but I wouldn't expect anything from him for a couple of years

Good low risk signing. Could be another Musa Yahaya or could be great, need to do this more often.

At least it means our scouting at younger age groups is working.

The massive talents at all EFL clubs and lower PL clubs will be known by the big PL clubs and they'll be all over them

Well done for Bellingham for holding firm though. Glad we managed to convince Devine though

I can expect to see us signing some young English players now that John McDermott has left to join the England youth set up. Jose mentioned it the other week in a press conference stating that he hasn’t exactly “left us” and that it’ll be good to have one of our own involved with the FA. Maybe this could be the start of it.

Very true, and I can’t think of a case where this worked out well for either party.

Parrett, Bostock, some kid we got from Swindon who was meant to be the next John Terry, all came with unfairly high expectations and never came close to realising them.

I think it’s pretty obvious that if he’s taking a role that is highly influential within the English youth set up would indicate he will be well informed as to who is highly rated and one for the future. Coincided with Jose’s quotes on him still being involved with us he may keep us in the loop ... (y)

Ha, I knew I was bound to miss the obvious successful youth signing. When you bring Rose into the equation, a 1 in 5 success ratio doesn’t look so bad when you consider the risk/reward.
Even though they only ever played for our first team, technically Bale and Lennon were our own club produced products in terms of UEFA HG rules as they both signed before turning 18.

Then there’s obviously the mercurial talents of Jamie O’Hara and Rohan Ricketts...

Lennon - just turned 18 and came to us for 1 million due to Leeds financial issues - let's hope this lad has a similar on field impact!

I hope i dont get bad rep here but from his videos the way he plays reminds me immediately of a player we all detest - left footed with a stockish frame, low CG turns, quick acceleration, nippy passes, gets stuck in...

Jack Wilshire! ??
