Answering questions in his latest Q&A, one fan turned the attention to Dier and a supposed meeting with Daniel Levy. However, Gold has clarified that meeting and insisted that as of now, Dier is keen to fight on at Spurs.

“From what I understand it was Eric Dier who was called in for a meeting with Daniel Levy. Presumably it was in an effort to move him on before the windows closed,” Gold said.

“Dier wants to fight for his place under Postecoglou but would have accepted a loan move had one arrived for him in order to get game time – reports suggesting a Burnley loan offer arrived were dismissed by the club at the time.”

Speaking further on Dier under Postecoglou, Gold has explained that the new Spurs boss just doesn’t see Dier as the ideal defender in his system.

“For Postecoglou, Dier just doesn’t really fit the archetype for one of his centre-backs as he just doesn’t have the pace to react to the balls over the top and down the flanks. The experienced defender will have to prove otherwise if he gets a chance,” Gold added.

Fair play if he wants to back himself but mobility has never been one of his qualities even at the best of times

Perfectly within his rights to reject moves. But for me it says something about our culture (hopefully changing now) that some of these players are more content to sit on the bench or even out of the squad than move and enjoy and progress their careers elsewhere.

When he first arrived to the squad he was lean and hungry. Then he bulked up and now looks too heavy to me. He's lost mobility because of that IMHO.

I'd be curious if those who were going in on him about how he's happy to sit there collecting wages, refusing to move will acknowledge they were way too harsh in light of this information.

It says above "but would have accepted a loan move had one arrived for him in order to get game time" and he says he wants to fight for his place (good luck with that), so maybe he's not content to just sit there and take the money? If you were a player at Spurs and they tried to ship you off to a place you didn't want to go to, what would you do? Go, and put up with a possible miserable couple of years or try and get back into the team you love? I think it's a bit presumptuous to think a professional footballer would rather do nothing and take the money, (Okay, we know of one major exception to that!) when they live to play. Dier might not be good enough now for this team, but he's always been professional.
Edit, just seen wrd's post above!

He used to be an all action aggressive DM. He was never fast but he would run with power. Since he went to CB he barely even ran

Might get some stick for this but I wonder if he could work as a rb in Ange’s system. He doesn’t have the pace for a cb nor the ball control to be a cm but imo could work as one of Ange’s inverted fullbacks

not saying he would/could displace either of our current options I’m just seeing where his skill set could work

Didn’t he even started first match as a rb?

Feel like you didn't read it and just assumed. It says:
“Dier wants to fight for his place under Postecoglou but would have accepted a loan move had one arrived for him in order to get game time
I know it's cool to assume Dier is the worst person ever, but even if he decided to sit on the bench or at home and collect his pay he is with in his rights to that. The guy gave us his body and his health to continue playing for this club and has never said a bad word. In fact I think he is one of very few who comes out publicly and backs the club. Honestly deserves more respect from the fanbase.
