Buy back clause applies to 2021 or 2022 with Spurs taking a profit of 15mil. Sess going out on loan. Read the article.

We've just got to make sure he never wants to leave.
So many players have fallen in love with this club, we just need to make sure he's another one.
Then Madrid can stick that clause up their pompous arse!

I'll admit i've never heard of Reguilon before we were linked with him but starting to develop a serious man-crush on him. He seems so sweet.

This is why I don't buy Uniteds "we're too big a club to agree to a buyback clause"-bullshit. If your club is so big and wonderful, then you shouldn't worry about players wanting to leave.

It's also not like the buy back clause is some insanely low fee that would leave us crippled and desperate. 40-45m euros is top tier fullback money these days. We get that and we can see how Sess and Cirkin have settled and if not we've got plenty of money to reinvest in another fullback. Also Madrid are only buying him back at that value if he settles and does well this year and the next and Marcelo leaves. Which means possibly 1-2 years of upper tier fullback play which we have been absolutely starved of for too long now.

and of course Sergio has to actually agree to go back to Madrid

Not sure if anyone saw the leaked picture of his shirt but it looks like the photo could've been taken by Bale himself at 3:32

Bale seems less bulky than he has for a while, hopefully getting back to agility ahead of muscle...

Also, Young Reguilon (where's that right hand?) obviously robbed Bale in that first photo ;)

Although at first i thought he was wearing an oven mitt and locking arms with Bale ? (but then i realized it was Bale's man bag)

I'm under no illusions that should Madrid want him back then he'll likely go.

However, whilst Madrid have insisted on this clause there's a good chance that they don't come back in for him.

Mendy has been brilliant for them this season and Zidane clearly likes him, therefore if ZZ is still there in 2 years and Mendy is still going strong, they may not wish to buy another LB.

Not only that but Madrid seem to be preparing for Mbappe next summer and I feel that they will be focusing on CM and CB before they can throw 40m at a LB.

Long way to go and a lot can change in 2 years, I'm just not convinced they will definitely come back.

Also perhaps they have a presidential change by then?

“Bale has been an idol for me since that game against Inter,” he explained. “Since that game in the Champions League I started to follow him, to watch YouTube videos of him and I became a big fan. I bought his shirts, his books – everything about him. And now being able to be here with him, in the club that raised him… I showed him on the plane the tweets that I wrote to him, and the pictures that I have from him, and he enjoyed that! He told me that Tottenham is a top club – those were his words. He said that everything here is top. He praised the training ground, the players, everything. He didn’t say a single negative thing about the club and at that moment I thought ‘great!’"

The thing is he isn't forced to go back if he doesn't want to. Show him the love we show his hero and of course perform on the pitch and I see no reason why he would want to leave?

The way I can make sense of the buy back element is that Madrid have agreed to us paying the bulk of the transfer fee towards the back end of the contract.
Signed a 5year deal so at very least imo we have spread the payments over the full 5 years (just like it will be treated in our accounts).
This way we get a relatively cheap quality LB for min 2 years (costing 10m - 5m *2years) which if Madrid do buyback at that stage it effectively becomes a loan (wages excluded) where Madrid have paid us to take him given they have to pay a 10-15m premium on what we paid.

Assume we allowed this as it is a relatively small outlay so won't impact on our transfer budget too much this year.

Plus a big upside will be that in our accounts in 2 years time if Madrid do sign him back then those accounts will show a 25m profit from this dealing (he will be worth 15m in those accounts and Madrid will pay 40m for him).

I'd say chances are we get at least 2 full years out of him, and maybe we'll just have to hope that either Madrid have other options come 2022 or he loves it here and the club develops and pushes for trophies.

It's not an ideal situation, but as others have said if it sorts out our LB vacancy for at least couple of years I'm all for it.

Can't see him going back at the end of this season, Mendy is better than him and Marcelo will still be there. Wouldn't make sense.

Buy back clauses usually don’t require the player’s say so do they?

There have been a number of cases or Madrid/Barca buying players back and reselling. We clearly have negotiated a variation where Regullion gets a say, which is very powerful as if we are winning trophies and loving life he is t going to back to Madrid unless he thinks he will get a starting spot.
