One of my all-time favorite players, I frankly wouldn't care if he was 67 and with only one leg, he would be a huge asset to the club both on the pitch and off. I would be over the moon if we signed him.

We need players in their prime not has beens

If he is leaving there after all these years it is for a reason, not that he wants a challenge but because he is past it, we are a young flowing team on the up not an old peoples home

Look at Davids, we signed him as a legend and with the greatest of respect to him he was bloody awful, he kicked lumps out of people yes but it was like playing with 10 men most time i saw him play

No from me

He would be a liability at his age with the pace of the premiership

Plus his wages would be sky high
Strongly disagree. Normally I would agree that a player's age is a factor but this is Pirlo we're talking about. Milan wrote him off and he lead Juventus to two consecutive Serie As. Sometimes class trumps everything and this man is class personified. Just look at his beard for Christ's sake!

Davids is not in the same class as Pirlo, as good a player as he was. Pirlo's game has never been based on speed, I think he would be superb for us, I really do.

Pirlo's a genius and I would so love this to happen, but two things worry me about going for a 30-something Italian.

One is Nicola. The other is Berti...

Sod it, let's do it anyway.

He's not a "has been" though, just 3 months ago he was staring for Italy in the ConFeds cup, judging by the likes of Paul Scholes's career, I reckon hes got a few years left in him.

Think he could teach our young players a lot. We have several young players with amazing talent. Imagine them having Pirlo as a mentor, to learn from one of the best. That could boost their development.

The only place that will ever leave Pirlo ineffective is retirement

Yeah, you're right. I've changed my mind. The guy is world class and there's no way he couldn't possibly add something to the team.

Would absolutely love him for a season. Thinking of him playing the vertical passes to Soldado is truly a thing of beauty. I'm trying to think of how it might all work, should it happen. We'd have Eriksen, Sandro, Paulinho, Pirlo, Dembele and Capoue all vying for 3 spots.

He's a deeplying playmaker so would probably have to be paired up with a DM to give him full freedom. I'm thinking an XI along the lines of

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Pirlo Capoue
Eriksen
Townsend Lamela
Soldado
In any case seeing Pirlo don the Lilywhite would be a thing of beauty

I'm so glad this thread is full of positive posts (apart from one person) that ignore his age. The main is a fucking genius on the pitch and such a superb role model; I would so so so love for us to have him even if it was for only a season. One of the most graceful players left from a dying generation.

How was Davids awful? he was great in his first season for us and added steel to our midfield which desperately needed it.

Pirlo is still a wonderful player, he probably wants a new challenge as he's spent his career in Italy.
