One year ago Jake Livermore got called up.
Got a feeling Townsend is more likely to stick around for a longer time though.
Got a feeling Jake will get a few more caps during his career.
Not a great player, but England havent got a lot of great players at the moment.

Oh come on, Hoops. You're smarter that that. Getting a call-up to the England squad means absolutely nothing. David fucking Nugent was called up to the England squad, even scored a goal (robbed it off Defoe as it was crossing the line). Glen Johnson has multiple caps FFS. I'm not slagging Townsend off, I think you see the point I'm trying to make (y)

You're probably misunderstanding my post Coopsie! I'm not actually a fan of AT (yet!) either. Always thought he was a head's down merchant who tired very quickly. I have seen him maybe 10 - 15 times in the flesh - so not a remote opinion either. As it happens I may have changed my mind slightly, but he's got a way to go yet to convince me he's a Spurs player or could be.

I was being sarcastic really. Come on Andros - convince me!

Ah well you should know by now that I'm nowhere near intelligent enough to be able to comprehend sarcasm ;)... The rest of your post, well it's as though you read my mind.

I like Townsend as a player and more importantly it now means Lennon is not automatic choice and must improve to get a starting place. Hopefully the incentive of a world cup will push them both to the next level.

AVB has also said that he is not happy with Roy Hodgson for calling up Andros Townsend. Full quotes on that to come, but as predicted, it seems Andre Villas-Boas is letting it all out today, after what has been a difficult week or two.
hmmmm.

And now they have Lamela ahead so either Andros or Lennon might leave. If not now, perhaps next summer as can't see all three getting that much playing time. Of course Lamela could be used elsewhere, but as record signing would think he starts where he excelled at Roma.

I really hope that AVB intends to keep Townsend and that he gets enough chances at Spurs. His potential is enormous.

There was a pessimistic part of me that read AVB's comments today as meaning that Townsend will not get the desired continuity due to lack of opportunities at Spurs, or that he needs to go elsewhere.

I want to see Andros and Aaron kept until January at least. By then we should be able to tell if Townsend is ready to take over or not, and one of them can be sold comfortably.

Feel free to tell me if these are old quotes but I'm just seeing them now:

Harry Redknapp believes Andros Townsend will still struggle to establish himself at Tottenham despite his recent England call-up.
Townsend won praise for his performances after Redknapp took him to QPR on loan last season and has managed to impress since returning to north London.
But former Spurs manager Redknapp is still not convinced the winger will be able to hold down a first-team place at White Hart Lane.
“Will he get in Tottenham’s team, let alone the England team? That’s going to be the kid’s problem,” said the R’s boss.
Townsend, 22. had a succession of failed loan spells prior to his arrival at Loftus Road, with the likes of Watford sending him back to Spurs early.
“When Aaron Lennon’s fit and all these other players come back it’s about whether he can get in the Tottenham team on a regular basis.”
But he did well under Redknapp, who has been hoping to sign him on a permanent basis but accepts the player’s England call-up means a Premier League club may now come in for him if Spurs are prepared to let Townsend go.
“It’s about confidence. He came here last season and knew that I liked him and believed in him. I think it showed in his performances,” Redknapp added.
“He went out and played and showed everyone what he could do. Now he’s gone back to Tottenham and been a hit in the Premier League for the first time.
“He’s a very focused kid. He wants to be successful and wants to get there and I think he will.
“But it ain’t going to be easy to get into Tottenham’s team will all them players there now.
“That is a fantastic squad of players – for me the best squad in the Premier League now.”

Sounds like ole Harry trying to get Townsend to come to QPR again to me.

If we are to let go, there might be PL interest now. However not to the extent as his status as flavour of the week suggests.
