In what way? Townsend is only half a year older than Ince but has more experience and is proven in the Premier League. Going by the prices bandied about that Blackpool would want for Ince (and considering there would be enough clubs interested in him to drive that up even further) we'd be making a loss on the exchange.
Ince has a higher ceiling. Townsend has more prem experience but im not sure that he's a better player. Ince was the best player in the championship last season (he was even better than Zaha). There's a reason that only Spurs supporters think that Townsend is better than Ince.... we tend to overrate our own homegrown players. And this is not even taking into account Townsend's own feelings. It sounds like he really wants to move on and get guaranteed first team football, like Caulker.
If we can get 6m or so for Townsend (with a good sell on clause) and pay 8m for Ince I personally would be happy with that.

What makes you think that Ince has a higher ceiling out of interest?

Also the way blackpool has been setup, it tends to build its team around their best player for U21's Ince looked very poor and Townsend looked alot better. People called Townsend a headless chicken but for U21's Ince kept on beating players having when he had to do something, he had terrible end product

He's more well rounded imo. He's got all the traits you want in a winger: Pace (although not as much as townsend), crossing ability, passing/ability to bring others into the game and goals in his pocket (ridiculously good goal scoring record). And I feel like he's more mature. Townsend is great in youtube videos but is frustrating to watch in games sometimes as he can bite off more than he can chew and is prone to taking shots when he shouldn't (selfish?).

Tom Ince had 18 goals and 14 assists last season for Blackpool. That could be due to what you said (Blackpool being set up to build around its best player) but still those stats are very, very impressive.

I understand your points but having seen them both play I think Ince is the better dribbler but Townsend has better end product. Actually Townsends end product isnt as bad as people make out but because he ends walking in to no space alot of time he doesnt have the space to do anything decent

I havn't seen enough of Ince to have a real judgement but his stats from last season certainly suggest that he has loads of end product.

Is that not fair enough?

By the way I'm in know way advocating that we get Ince and sell Townsend - I'd like the latter to be given a shot, but if Andre wants to sell or Townsend wants to go get regular first team football, either way I'll wait until the end of the window to judge.

Ince for Blackpool is very lethal and is given a free role whereas everytime i have seen for England U21, his end product has left something to be desired

Townsend on the other hand when he hits the ball properly has good end product but his problem has always being dwelling on the ball to long imo and miss hits it

I just both players are about the same tbh despite Ince's better record

taarabt had 19 goals 23 assists in the championship, would anyone want him in our side now?

townsend must stay, swapping him for ince is nuts. don't do it levy.

We'd be stupid to sell him. Last season we had no wide cover at all. Now with Lennon/Townsend/Chadli we actually have a bit of depth. Selling the club's two best homegrown players since Ledley in one summer would be utter lunacy.

Surely the important thing is not whether they are the best since Ledley but whether they are good enough for a team that aspires to win the PL. Neither are/were IMO.

Agree to disagree I guess.... But ill leave you with this thought... if Townsend's end product is better than Ince's, why does Ince have 27 goals in 84 career games when Townsend only has 12 total goals in 106 total career games? Stats aren't the whole story i know but still...

And if Townsend doesn't want to stay? The kid's been on like 16 loans, he probably wants a club where he'll get regular playing time and have some stability for once. I wouldn't begrudge him that.

I would need to see much more of him before making a judgement really. Sometimes I see real top quality potential, and a lot of times he reminds me of Etherington. A player who could forge a decent career in the prem but nothing outstanding.

I suggest we trust the sexy ones judgement on this

If AVB thinks Townsend can learn to play with his head up, keep him.

If not, sell him.

Not a huge fan of his to be honest. He needs to learn how to use his teammates better. For his skill level and the production he has right now he plays way way waaaay too selfish.

And both with some involvement in gambling, seemingly much more ruinous in the case of Matt.

The only reason we should sell Townsend is if we were doing it to bring in Lamela. That's really it. Ince is so mehtastic.
