Romeo Agresti is meant to be reliable I think, especially when Juventus are involved. Alasdair Gold has also said we are interested on multiple occasions.

Tottenham face battle to sign Milik as Juventus enter race for Napoli striker

Romeo Agresti

The Poland international is interested in a move to the Serie A champions, but Goal understand the London club want him as an attacking option
Tottenham are working on signing Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli but face tough competition from Juventus for his signature, sources close to the negotiations have confirmed.

The Poland international striker's contract in Naples will expire next season and the Bianconeri are trying to fix up a swap deal in order to replace their main forward, Gonzalo Higuain, with another strong attacking option.

Juve have put centre-back Cristian Romero, currently on loan at fellow Serie A side Genoa, on the table, however this has been refused by Napoli who are not keen to swap a striker for a defender.

Talks are ongoing about including winger Federico Bernardeschi in a deal, while Luca Pellegrini, despite being a left-back, is considered an exciting enough prospect to be of interest to the Neapolitan club.

Juve are already preparing for next season as they defend their Serie A crown against challenges from Lazio and Inter, with midfielder Dejan Kulusevski signed from Atalanta and the swap deal with Barcelona involving Arthur and Miralem Pjanic completed, while the future of Higuain remains uncertain.

The discussions, however, have allowed other clubs to stay in the race for Milik, and Goal has learned that Tottenham are among those sides.

Although Milik is said to be keen on joining Juve and linking up once again with former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri, a move to Turin is not a certainty and Spurs is still a possible option.

Spurs are looking to boost their attacking options, with there currently a lack of quality competition for first-choice frontman Harry Kane. An established striker such as Milik, whose physical presence also offers something different to Kane's style, is also attractive for manager Jose Mourinho.

The 26-year-old, who has 14 goals in 49 international appearances for Poland, has been a regular source of goals for Napoli since joining the club from Ajax in the summer of 2016. This campaign he has registered 10 strikes across 19 Serie A appearances.

His major drawback is a propensity for injuries - Milik has missed matches this season due to a variety of groin, knee and other muscle knocks, which may not make him the reliable deputy for Kane - who has himself suffered injury woes this campaign - that Tottenham need.

Good player, but we should be focussing on the areas in our first XI that are broken (DM, FB, CB etc).

Could be Napoli/agents chucking our name in again to inflate his price.

TBF Juve have been linked with him in the press for a lot longer than us. If the interest is legit, not sure how we compete - money or no money.

Our interest is legit as far as I know. Problem is second backup striker is also important for us just like DM,FB,CB !!

Good player, and wouldn’t be unhappy if we brought him in. But, I just think if we need a revamp with an eye to the future, a guy like Odsonne Edouard makes so much more sense.

Just doesn't make sense to spend this kind of money on the position we already have our most valuable player occupying.

Unless we change our formation I don't see him and Kane in the same team. I'd much rather we used Son as back up striker, give Parrott a chance as 3rd choice and sign a wide forward who can also play centrally to replace Moura and Lamela.

Milik is not a deputy and would cost a ton. We need someone willing to play second fiddle or someone without the name brand value to command a starting position.

He agreed personal terms with Juventus - he's willing to be backup

He would not be a backup there, he'd be their starting striker.

And we don't have the allure or name brand of a Juventus to where we can pay the amount necessary to keep a player like that on the bench, even if that were to be his role.

And he would start over who?

We've been broken up top for a long time. It's inexcusable that we have the worst center forward depth in the league. Hell, Norwich have Pukki, Drmic and Idah, 3 players. We literally have Kane and Parrot.

They only have one striker, Higuain, who is rather old. Dybala has been filling in as striker while Higuain's been out injured. So in theory Milik would take over the striker role with Higuain as backup/competition, Ronaldo would play on the left, and Dybala or Douglas Costa would play on the right. Sarri has also played 4-2-3-1 a bit this year and in that one Dybala could play 10.

I think centre forward is just as broken tbh mate as we need competition for Kane to keep him sharper / free of injuries.

I don't disagree that we need depth at CF. I said I'd prefer us to be focussing on broken areas of the first XI. That's where the limited budget should be spent first in my view.
