They apparently offered 250k/wk. He’d be nuts not to take that. Unless he wants CL, he should absolutely accept that offer and extend his stay in Europe longer than another 2 years.

Ball's in his court though.

If he smashes in another 20 goals next season, most of the top clubs in Europe will be interested in him on a free.

31/32 year old on a 3 year deal for £250k a week is £40m spread over 3 seasons. But there's no transfer fee.

Like I said, lots of clubs will be interested in that.

La Voix du Nord (reliable) also saying they're close to signing Gabriel, the CB from Lille a few people on here were v keen on us signing a few weeks back.

That's potentially Saliba, Gabriel, Willian and Coutinho coming in already, with a bumper contract for Auba too. Can't say they're not backing Arteta.
Haha oh my! But we were supposed to be on another level to then and Chelsea. Instead we are buying Hojbjerg and after Deeney...

So will they keep PEA and if so, is it good business?

When you crunch all the numbers, Arsenal should probably be selling him this summer and reinvesting, because if he leaves next summer, he'll go for nothing. And if he signs a new deal, they'll end up with an Ozil situation as he gets older. Is he genuinely going to be scoring 20+ league goals, every season, as he progresses through his 30s?

I doubt they will sell him though; they're not pragmatic enough. That said, he may force a move, or simply not sign a contract and go for free next summer anyway.

Being reported he’s signing the contract. No surprise if they are paying him £250k a week for the next three years. Money over ambition.

Whats 12.5% of their astronomical wage bill? Pretty sure cut pay cut has expired now that the season is over anyway.

Apparently the agreement was for a year, but some reports say that qualifying for the Europa League would mean the players would receive 5% back.

Seems like they may ditch their scouts and use agents instead....worked out well for Hull I guess....

They seem to be letting their best scouts go in those redundancies. We should be trying to snap them up.
Not sure I want Arsenal scouts, some of those clowns thought signing Mustafi, Jenkinson, Skoratis, Chamakh, Sanogo, Welbeck and so on was a good idea

I didn't fully appreciate that they were dismantling their European scouting network:

Dunno if anyone can clarify , but doesn't Brexit mean that under 18 yrs old European players can't be targetted anymore thereby reducing the need for some parts of UK clubs' Europe scouting networks ?

I don't understand the fuss. They've revamped their scouting model meaning they don't need a lot of these scouts any more. Why would they keep people employed they don't need?

Well not all 55 are scouts.

But I think it is the timing more than anything, you don't go and lay off 55 staff then go and give your star striker a bumper new contract and try to attract another high profile free agent in Willian for another bumper contract I assume.

I get they obviously want to restructure but why not phase it? It just paints a bad image the way they have gone about it.

True enough, but this wasn't communicated to the players, who took a wage cut on the proviso that no one would be losing their jobs.

Bad communication has led to the players being upset, which is far from ideal.

You don’t understand the fuss at 55 people losing their job while the club presses ahead to sign Willian on a multi million pound contract?

That’s compounded by the fact the players took a pay cut on the proviso that it would protect the jobs of non playing staff.

As I explained above, if they're restructuring a department, they have no reason to keep the staff.
