DT on AFTV makes a good point - Arsenal gave Emery a 2-year contract for a reason: to assess his performance and see how it goes. So what's the point of such a contract if you don't then exercise your right to get rid after the 2 years of sub-par return?

Fair point. You can hardly argue Arse fans are being knee-jerk in calling for Emery's head when the board are only prepared to give him a couple of dozen more games anyway.

That's not really a good point though as he's not really doing a sub par job. He took them to the Europa League Final and almost got them into the Champions League positions again in his first season. He's got a rebuilding job that would take any manager a few seasons. Just because the board didn't want a long term financial commitment it doesn't mean they won't offer him a new contract. There may already be an option to extend. Every time they win they're the best team in the league, but if they lose they want a new manager.

Emery quoted as saying "we knew 2-0 wouldn't be enough at half time" which sounds an odd thing to say, not the sort of thing to put some steel into your players to send them out for the second half or maybe it reflects the team's fragile mental state.

I hope Mourinho gets a job somewhere in the next 9 months because he’d be perfect for sorting them out.

Not sure they’re smart enough to go for him or even if he’d want to given the fact they aren’t a champions league club.

Would he want to go there though?

He's said it has to be the perfect fit and that squad is a million miles away from being Mourinho like. He'd want significant investment and I'm not sure they'd give him more than what he had at United.

Certainly he wants to be back in the PL though, so I guess it's how desperate he is.

I wonder if he'd fancy the challenge. It is a big one though.

Mourinho wouldn't go to Arsenal, not with the squad they have. He would go to a club that had the potential for some instant short term success (domestic cup) to build some confidence and then spend a fortune in the transfer market.

With Arsenal you need two CBs and a CDM. Not exactly an easy task in this current era when Man United have spent £80m on Harry Maguire to try and address defensive issues.

Mourinho will probably end up at a club who are in a position to challenge for the title straight away, not a team he has to build to get there, he isn't a project manager.

I doubt Mourinho would turn down Arsenal. There are basically 6 top clubs in the PL now, he’s managed two, City and Liverpool wouldn’t touch him, and we (currently) don’t need him. I reckon he’d also love the opportunity to fuck with Wenger’s legacy.

Wenger really fucked them over. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they could have got Klopp or Pep if he had left earlier.

Instead they get the Count from Sesame Street.

They fucked themselves over by not giving him the ol' Spanish archer sooner. They were perfectly content to just plod along finishing top 4 and so allowed Wenger to stay well past his sell by date.
