Haven't we been following Godfrey for a while?

Nice to see us linked to young English potential, no idea how good he is.

I like him, has a lot of the attributes we need. Good speed, good on the ball, good 1 v 1, might need some coachning to develop his positional sense. Not a cleary bigger talent then Foyth though, so if he is seen as a CB going forward with Toby and Jan looking likely to stay around I’m a bit sceptical but nevertheless interesting link.

Herc mentioned we were going in for a Prem CB or 2 in Jan. Everyone presumed Ake but maybe the 1st priority is Godfrey

Linked from various sources, this appeared in the Guardian so here it is.......Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey.......
I believe this rumour came from 'Football Insider' who aren't reliable and this Guardian piece just rounds up rumours from other websites.

No, my little sisters first boyfriend had the same name and I hated the little shit. Won’t ever warm to this player, think we should leave.

Did he get Jeeves to banish you from the annual Christmas duck shoot on the estate.

Could be tricky to get him from Norwich in the middle of the season.

Can't see us getting anyone significant in Jan. Moura is the only example I can think of and he was out of favour.

EDIT: Also PSG had FFP issues if I remember right.

Yup. The teams we can buy from in January, without paying huge fees, are smaller teams (easier outside England) that can be bullied because of financial issues and getting players from teams that don't play them (like Moura). Otherwise we could try to secure someone for free in the summer and pay them a small amount now, but that rarely works.

It's not looking bright either way. Maybe loaning someone if we really need it (I don't know what Mourinho's stance is on this for the season).

Or players with release clauses.

As a former midfielder he fits that mobile ball playing CB role nicely! Him and Ake could be great long term options with Foyth and Sanchez too!

Young, English, nice price with a really good potential high ceiling, reminds me a lot of what Liverpool saw in Gomez...

On a local level for me, York City have a nice sell on clause for Godfrey, so a few million there would be nice, get them back up the leagues!

He’s had a tough start in the Prem but I’d still prefer Max Aarons. We need a right back more, and he’s got loads of potential

We were linked with Godfrey in the summer but he signed a new contract instead. It’s now approaching Jan and Norwich are looking like relegation certainties. Do Norwich pray for a miracle, hold on to him, go down anyways and lose him for a low amount, or accept they’re pretty much buggered and get circa £30m for him in Jan? Fulham played this game with Sessegnon and lost out big time.

Not convinced Norwich will go down. They had awful injuries and since their players have come back they have beaten Everton and drawn to Arsenal and should have won.

If Godfrey performs well his value will be high whether they stay up or not.
