Soumare is highly talented but he’s still incredibly raw and inconsistent. He would be a very good signing but he’ll fall in the Sessegnon grouping in terms of not been ready for consistent 1st team action. In saying that I would much rather have highly talented youngsters with a high threshold whom will both benefit immensely from Mourinho’s mentoring and have the qualities to step in when needed.

The best signing we can make from Lille is Campos so we can start identifying and possibly signing these players before we end up paying £50m plus for them when they arent really proven outside their own league but have high potential

There’s quite a list of players at Lille. They’re RB, GK, Soumare, and ST are all players that would be welcomed with open arms.

I also like the look of Jonathan Bamba, Jonathan Ikone (although not sure they'd be good enough for us) and we've also been linked with their RB, Zeki Celik. I watched a bit of Lille last night and he looks a good player.

All I would say about Soumare is that he's been described as potential superstar, recently Julien Lauren said exactly this on the Totally Football podcast.

Equally, just because the stats don't currently suggest that he's a true CDM, that doesn't mean he doesn't have the ability to be one and in truth it may be his best position, however, what he's being asked to currently do for Lille doesn't fit that true CDM role. If coached to be one he looks to have all the attributes to excel in the positon IMO.

Let's not forget, Eric Dier was a CB that had barely played CDM before Poch put him there and in his 1st or 2nd season he led the league in interceptions, tackles etc and before getting injured was one of the better CDM's in Europe probably.

With all that said, whilst I'd like us to Soumare at some point, for me it would be to replace Sissoko when he goes. What we need right now is a proper CDM with experience of playing the role.

Looks more like box-to-box midfielder than a disciplined DM who stays back to cover, but with some coaching it's shouldn't be too difficult perhaps. With Alli being nailed to start there is no room for both box to box and defensive DM in a 4-3-3, we need more players in midfield that fit in 4-2-3-1. More players like Ndombele when it comes to passing and more players like Wanyama (in his prime) when it comes to defending.

What I'm amazed that no one's mentioned yet is that while he's a really good player, he's more of a box to box midfield rather than the proven DM that we need

(FYI - I'm being sarcastic)

An effective shield in front of the back four (e.g. a defensive midfield) doesn't have to consist of a Dier/Matic. Neither Moutinho or Neves are that limited.
