Love the look of Soumaré but don't think he's what we actually need right now - Florentino Luis is what we actually need - Someone who will provide protection to the back 4 and get stuck into tackles with precision timing and excellent reading of the game. Soumaré seems to be more of a technical version of Sissoko - a dribbler who can transition the play, quickly. What we actually need is a Kanté and a tackler who reads the game and breaks up play - We can make do with Sissoko for the moment for quick transitions up the pitch. It's Wanyama we need to replace.

That said, Soumaré is an outstanding talent and if he's available perhaps we should be in for him regardless - and especially given our connections with Sacramento.

Send that to our scouts. I suspect they’ve never heard of him if their recent work is anything to go by.

Nothing wrong with our scouts. The board choosing to sign 4/5th choices in the past is the issue. Last summer probably first window they didn’t but it’s 2 years to late.

To start, I'm a big fan of Florentino Luis (posted about him in the weekly discussion thread) and I believe he'd be the ideal signing as well. With that said, I think Soumare would also be an unbelievable signing and is much more likely with Sacramento's links to Lille (as you'd said as well). In looking at a bunch of gameplay videos, highlights, stats, etc. from Soumare, he has everything we need from a DM. He reads the game very well, has the size and pace to be a total destroyer in the midfield and on set pieces, and he's got the technical quality to succeed in each third of the pitch. In addition, what I really like about him is his tactical versatility (similar to Sissoko but with way more technical quality). Depending on the instructions, he can succeed in the #6 Kante role, #8 Ndombele role, and even wide in a 3-man midfield. Take a look at this video and you be the judge on if he's got the tackling/interception ability and combativeness to succeed in a holding Kante role. I say yes.

Also, he's 20... still has so much upside to grow and develop into whatever role we choose to mould him into.

Ignore the name of the video... classic YouTube eye-grabbing shite.

Could be a great signing alongside a fully fit Ndombele. Have we had any ITK since Hercules update a few weeks ago saying there was truth in it?

I would like to suggest Sander Berge from Genk as a similar interesting possibility (like Soumaré and Florentino). But haven't seen any rumors linking him to Spurs :(

I’d take Berge in a heartbeat. Six foot five, good positional awareness, strong, very quick, decent passer. Imagine a bigger Sissoko, who can screen a defence, make a good pass, tackle and cover ground very quickly

Indeed, I'm surprised he wasn't snapped up by the bigger leagues already in the summer. Perhaps Genk have priced him prohibitively high (I'm only speculating)

Sky now saying we're exploring midfield loans. Way to kick the can down the road, Tottenham. The suggestion we'll get 4-5 big transfers done in the summer is laughable.

No point wasting money on a loan when we could get somebody in now who by the time they've acclimatised to the league will still be our player.

While I do agree that it's not ideal, maybe it's the only available option.
If the players we want aren't available - and we certainly need SOMEONE - maybe a loan is the best thing to do. Either with a minimal fee or an option to buy.
I'd love us to just swoop in and sort the problem but that might just not be possible.
It's certainly not ideal, but a loan is better than nothing at the moment.

Lol at the loan message. Either Mourinho is playing it cool with the amount of money we have to spend or we are well and truly fucked! He's been consistently saying we don't need players, aren't in for players like Fernandes as they are too expensive and that we have many windows to rebuild. If this is the case this season is a write off and we'll be back to the bargain bin with no champions league football and back to the old "player only wants a champions league club" statement.
