I would snatch their hand off for £60m. He is now a £100m player and I would pay it. He is the closest England have to Paul Gascogne and is just what we need.

He’s nowhere near that good. I like him, but he’s a very unique player who might not fit that well into a system. Everything Villa do goes through him, it won’t be like that at whichever club he joins next.

I suspect that’s why Southgate has overlooked him so far.

Long range shots aside he’s Villa’s version of Glyfi Sigurdsson. His teams best player but lacks the added piece of magic to flourish in a team full of stars.

Exactly this. He won't dominate a good team like he does at Villa. He's probably a level above what Charlie Adams was to Hull. He'll be a very good cog in a good team but not the be all and end all. Gazza in his prime was the team. One of the greatest players in the last 40 years, and imo definitely the best Englishman in that period.

Think Grealish is being massively underrated. Obviously not a patch on Gazza, but he’s a dynamic player who makes things happen, drives a team forward, good passing and shooting, can play in multiple positions and is also very tenacious. Most importantly for a midfielder, he takes responsibility for making his team function. I don’t think he’d look out of place in any top side.

Maddison on the other hand, all I see is Dele with less flair, less skill, more dallying, lower output and far less work rate. Proper MOTD highlights player, ala Morten Gamst Pedersen or Gylfi.

Definitely some jealousy (from me) about Bruno going to Utd but I was adamant I wanted Lo Celso more in the summer, and he's now starting to impress. Will be interesting to compare the two at the end of the season.

Hopefully Bergwijn will end up being better use of our money when all is said and done.

I think once settled Ndombele and Lo Celso will both offer a lot of creativity and more than replace Eriksen, hopefully Bergwijn will contribute on that front too, he has very good assist figures.

As others have said we're looking at Eze in the summer too. The big money deals may be better off at DM or CB in the summer. Although I'd love to see us try for Grealish if Villa go down.

Sky Sports:

MORE FERNANDES INFO...
Manchester United appear to be edging closer to capturing their number one target of the January transfer window.
After weeks of negotiations, Ed Woodward has agreed a deal with Sporting’s director Hugo Viana, which could see United pay an initial fee of 55m euros plus add-ons. The add-ons could see the deal rise to an eye-watering 80m euros.
Tonight, Bruno Fernandes remains in Lisbon considering his next move - joining Barcelona, via Valencia in La Liga or a move to the Theatre of Dreams and Manchester United.

Sky Sports News has obtained details of the two add-on clauses which United have offered Sporting to help close the deal.
As well as the Euros 55m fee:
  • Sporting would receive a further Euros 10m from United if Fernandes achieves what are considered easily achievable targets.
  • Sporting would receive an additional Euros 15m from United if Fernandes achieves what are considered more difficult targets to achieve. It’s understood these clauses include Fernandes winning the Ballon d’Or.
With both United and Barca offering deals acceptable to Sporting, it looks likely that Sporting will now allow the player to decide his future. Clearly a decision is just hours away.
We understand Barca have offered a slightly bigger fee for Fernandes – however, a significant part of that figure would not be paid until the summer.

Never get into a semantics argument with tiger or shadydan

Is that advice because we would lose the argument?

Just kidding. I get what tiger says. He had been brilliant and has shown he has the tools. While I think his success is highly probable it isn't a slam dunk and Jose had said as much and i wil humbly submit to Jose's opinion for now as he had seen fast more of him. Please note I wrote highly probable.

The nuance is whether it is certain or not.

Over priced! GLC better. Thank God he wasn’t playing for Sporting
I agree Herc with this. Always think we used BF as a chip to force Betis's hand on a more favorable deal for us. That mazy run against Soton was magical and simply carved open the Soton defence. I believe more to come from our Argie magician.

Don't think that is a fair comment to make until he gets his chance in a team full of stars.

He has a little bit extra about him compared to the likes of Sigurdsson, Hoilett, etc type players. IMO.

Fucking hell I give up. Think what you like I don't care, I have my opinion and there's nothing you can say that's going to change it. Not saying any more, the thread's been derailed enough.
Ah the joys of human discussion and discourse. Taking time to understand the views and perspectives of others as a way to evolve our own opinions. Understanding that as a single person we can’t possibly think of all angles for a given situation. Civilzation built on debate and..... oh wait....

Would be nice if the United fans shooting fireworks at Woodward’s house put people off signing for them. What a whiny bunch of entitled ****s. Poor babies don’t have a monopoly on players and every title anymore :(

Mate he's nowhere near Gazza. He's a very good player but I think some on here are over-rating him massively imo of course.

Mate If you read my post in the context it was written you might have noticed the word closest. All about opinions of course. But we missed out on a quality player who would have given us different alternatives.
