There's definitely a theme in this thread where anyone not towing the company line and having criticism is talked down to, usually referring to YouTube, FIFA or Champ Man. If only scouts or qualified coaches could post opinions here it would be pretty quiet.

There's equally a theme here of far too many posters who likely knew little to nothing about Vinicius before this morning - and who still know the barest minimum about him - who nevertheless feel well enough placed to bitterly pronounce him to be not good enough.

Such stridently stated opinions, based on such scant knowledge, will inevitably invite condescension.

Looks decent and seems to have to traits to do well in England. For those saying he's unproven, he seems equally, if not more proven than Edouard, Daka and Diallo. Not saying he's better than them, just that I don't really buy that as an argument against him.

I think my major concern here is the price. I had a little look on the main Benfica message board and, while he generally seems quite a popular player, the kind of price they expect for him is between 40-60 million Euros. Could be that the fans don't realise how desperate the finanical situation is, but Benfica have a history of selling very big and we have a history of not buying very big. That could be a problem.

Also, if we are willing to spend 40 million+ is this the best we can do? I will give Jose, Levy and Hitchen the benefit of the doubt if we do decide to splash big on him, but I do get a slight whiff of a Haller/Joelinton about this deal.

I also came across this post:

"Brazzers is already showing the sales values of Vinicius. It's the boss's business, he knows what's going on."

Make of that what you will.

The more I think about this, the more it makes sense. Forget goalscoring records from the league they have come from as we have seen players come with good records in 'stronger' leagues (Falcao, Higuain, Soldado, etc) and struggle. We have seen players with a range of records come from 'weaker' leagues come and be great (Suarez, Jiminez, Drogba).

What is telling for me is how often we struggle against teams who sit deep and don't give us space behind. Having the option of a big strong forward to cause issues for defenders and free up the rest of our forwards seems the perfect solution. Jose said he wants someone to play with Kane and I can see CV being able to do just that.

We often say that Llorente was wasted as we did not play to his strengths, Jose has shown time and time again he gets great results out of players of this physical stature. Hope this moves quickly and he is in sooner rather than later.

JJ: «FWIW it’s not under the radar anymore ??- don’t get hung up on YouTube too much either ?»

Just hope it’s Tottenhams first choice and not just the guy Mendes decided to put here... Personally don’t like the strong Mendes connection to be honest.

Edit: Wolves failed to get a work permit for him last summer, apparently. Would be a bit strange if that situation is different now, given that he still doesn’t play for Brazil.

Thanks for sharing JJs words, does he seem confident it’ll happen? I’m assuming the bold part is you, not him.

It’s not that I have too much reservation with the player, though I definitely do have some concerns, it’s the idea of paying £40 million for an uncapped 25-year-old with only 1 season of production...

Hopefully there’s some Mendes trickery afoot, because I don’t want this to be our only signing this window.

Even his YouTube highlights look like a donkey. I would take Diallo over this guy 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

fully expect this to happen now. This guy is garbage.

Not having a go but I read JJ’s tweet came here and read this!
Think we’ve found the guy!

Yep, the bold part was me. JJ just tweeted the quoted part.
I see.

I personally think our sudden acceptance that relationships with certain agents can give us a leg up signifies a change in mentality from DL, a determination to actually achieve something.

Pure speculation here but I highly doubt we would pay 40 million. Not unless the payment structure was massively in our favour.

I just have to assume there's something financially attractive about this deal to Levy, either due to Mendes or Benfica's financial situation. Most Spurs and Wolves fans thought Doherty wouldn't move for less than £25 million yet we signed him for less than £15m so you never know.

Either that or Levy really has decided to give Jose the gift of his chosen striker, but that strikes me as odd given we've penny pinched for 18 months over a backup striker. Why suddenly go massive now?

EDIT: so this is what it's like to feel the wrath of Herc's fat fingers :ROFLMAO:

Is it the well timed runs behind defences, the well struck goals with either foot or head, the skill he shows in making various goals for himself or the slide rule passes that most make him look like a donkey?

Asking for a friend.

We all went into this transfer window saying that we wanted Levy to back Jose with his preferred signing at striker, and if this Jose's pick then I'm behind it 100%. It's easy to sit here with an FM mindset and say we'd prefer other players we've been linked to (I've made it clear he's not my personal first choice) but I trust Jose completely when it comes to selecting the profile of his players.

Vinicius is 6'3, got great pace and power and has a reputation for working his nuts off. The videos posted also show that he has great vision and intelligence with a number of quality throughballs and cheeky layoffs in the box. That sounds like a pretty prototypical Jose striker to me so let's hope he smashes it.
