Not quite upon us yet but Celtic haven't made it though the qualifiers - beaten by AEK Athens over two legs.

They now need to win a play off just to squeeze into the Europa League.

From today's Guardian ...

Tougher draw in line for Liverpool

Benfica’s 2-1 aggregate win over Fenerbahce means Liverpool still face the prospect of a tough draw. Benfica take on the Greek side PAOK Salonika, who have already knocked out FC Basel and Spartak Moscow to progress to the play-off round, for a place in the competition proper.

The result means Liverpool, the highest-ranked third seeds, could find themselves in Pot 3, rather than the more favourable Pot 2, for the group stage draw that takes place on 30 August.

Watched Ajax-Standard last night. They added Tadic and Blind to an already technically gifted and young side with the likes of De Ligt, De Jong, Neres, Ziyech. Huntelaar scoring the goals etc.

They are going to be fun to watch at home in both league and CL (if they make it past D. Kiev and reach the group stage of course)

For dining at the CL big table this season the money starts out as ...

Fixed amounts (€585m)
Group stage performance bonuses will be paid for each match: €2.7m per win and €900,000 per draw. Undistributed amounts (€900,000 per draw) will be pooled and redistributed among the clubs playing in the group stage in amounts proportionate to their number of wins.

Clubs that qualify for the knockout stage can expect to receive the following amounts:
• qualification for the round of 16: €9.5m per club
• qualification for the quarter-finals: €10.5m per club
• qualification for the semi-finals: €12m per club
• qualification for the final: €15m per club
• The UEFA Champions League winners can expect to pick up an additional €4m.
• The two clubs that qualify for the 2018 UEFA Super Cup can each expect to receive €3.5m, with the winners collecting

"Nice work if you can get it"

What pot are we in then?

This is how it stands at the mo... A lot hinges on tonight's last 3 matches. If Benfica win then apparently Liverpool are stuffed in pot 3.

From The Independent ..
Tottenham
Spurs stunned Europe when they topped their group ahead of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund last season, which included a 3-1 win against Los Blancos and a draw at the Bernabau.

With this in mind, Tottenham will go into the competition with the confidence that they can beat anyone and hope for the least amount of travelling for their thin squad.

Best outcome: Lokomotiv Mosciw, Lyon, Club Brugge

Worst outcome: Barcelona, Monaco, Galatasaray

to be honest Chosen, the only way I'd want them to have a real tough draw is if it meant they finished 3rd, and fell into the EL. due to them having the least involved players playing in the later stages of the WC, we need them to have as many fixtures as possible in every comp, just lose when it really matters.

I'd be quite happy with

Bayern M (want 1 biggy especially if the stadium is opened for some of the group matches) Ajax, and Club Brugge, not much travelling in that lot

There's a couple of big names in pot 4 which could throw a spanner in the works for some of the groups

PSV have their nose in front - now 4-2 ahead on aggregate.
Other ties all square

Russian clubs are notoriously unpredictable. I think Real will struggle without Ronaldo. Hence I would take them. The other two are spot on.
