A Chelsea fan has been handed a stadium ban after he was found to have racially abused Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min during a match at Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Burchell, 30, from Croydon, south London, was spotted making a racist gesture when the South Korean forward went to take a corner during a 2-2 Premier League draw on August 14.

If i m correct (and i may not be) didn't a Spurs fan get a lifetime ban for assaulting the Woolwich keeper?

What is the difference?

Why is it more lenient to be racially abused than physically abused?

Assault in law does come with a harsher punishment than anything verbal.

Obviously I'm against racist abuse but I have no problem with physical assaults coming with a harsher punishment.

He's 30 should know better, also as he is from Croydon he should be made to spend a day at nearby (ish) New Malden and wear that gesture on a T-shirt or placard like Bruce Willis in Die Hard 3.

Dumb thing is he made a gesture (we can assume what it was) that Son probably didn't even notice, in a moment of anger... So was it worth it?

Also how do they enforce these "bans" if he has a season ticket will that be transferable? Also what's to stop him just going on someone else's season ticket (as i have a few Chav "mates" and they regularly go on others tickets so it seems pretty lax) unless they have a face recognition database (but for all the scum they have to get the ground full even with the Top Super computers it would take a week ;) )

He’ll still be able to get into stadium but if caught will be punished.
