Good question. It is not easy to value him based on the previous transfer fee, but he is a long term striker option, and is worth at least £13 mill. That should not be a problem for us. I don't know if Chelsea would be eager to sell, though.....

Surely if Chelsea would not want to sell then "the player would get upset and hand in a transfer request"?????? Seriously SK, you cannot have one rule for one and another for another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is also worth noting with Benteke that he scores when the game is very open, team's do not shut up shop against Villa, Spurs under Harry faced team's that parked the bus and we are now facing it even more under AVB, what we need is a clever player to make runs behind the line in the mould of Hernandez, i just do not see any of those clever attributes in Benteke's play..

Come on! This is a different scenario. Chelsea is a Champions League club. In that case, they will consider an offer, but say no. The player knows he is at a good club.
In the case of Benteke, it is completely different. Aston Villa have a squad that is useless, and probably the worst in the league. If an offer came in, the player would be really interested. If the club refused to consider it, the player would be upset. No doubt about that.

It is sad to see AVB not being able to get a good word from such a talented player.

Such talent ? Sorry but he'snt that good. Look at his first touch and he simply can't go past a defender on his own with a drible. Yes he's strong and fast (?, he could'nt even go past that belgian left back on his debut against norwich last season) but that's it. If he's so talented, why didn't he start every game ( at least more games) for West Brom. A lot over here says the same that Benteke has more qualities for the PL.

it just seems so easy when you put it like this.

lets buy messi and ronaldo as well, i cant see it being a problem.

Spursking wouldn't be interested in us signing Messi, Ronaldo, Xavi or Iniesta even if they were all free transfers, they all have the wrong heritage for Spursking.

I'm serial btw. Some of you youtube experts need to watch a few full length games of this footballing abortion. I'd rather recall Kane than sign Benteke, and Kane's fucking shite.

No need for the snobbery, you are entitled to your opinion just like us "youtube experts" are. Then again it's hard to take someone who calls Benteke the worst striker in the league seriously.....

Wrong, actually, the opinion of a youtube expert is worth less than that of someone who has had the misfortune to watch Benteke over 90 mins.

Name me a striker worse than Benteke? Lambert is a far superior player, much better technically. Di Santo has more to his all round game, Grant Holt is a ghastly sight but he's more effective, and less erratic than Benteke the footballing holocaust.

Amazing, you actually think people base their opinions of highlights and snippets of a player to form an opinion of them?, well I can tell you that this is definitely not the case (for me anyway) I've seen enough of him to suggest that he has good potential and can establish himself as a very good PL striker, you seem to think that your opinion is valid and no-one else's opinion is, I'd advise you to take your head out of your back side

As for Grant Holt, since Chris Hughton has made Norwich are far more disciplined unit as opposed to the free flowing open game Norwich played last season his goal return had been suspect, 4 goals in this Premiership season and this in a team who are comfortable better than Aston Villa, show's you how effective a player like that can be.

Rickie Lambert has been playing professional football for 13 years so you'd expect him to have more about his game than a striker who is still relatively new to playing football in this country and what qualities does Di Santo bring over Benteke bearing in mind that he's in his 5th full season in the top flight and has only managed to find the net 13 times in over 108 appearances.

I genuinely want to know if you're being serious here but you'd have the likes of Jason Roberts, Rodallega, Chamakh, Saha, Borini to name but a few over Benteke? Harry Kane doesn't even look like a Premiership player yet.

You've obviously gone to extremes to attempt to validate your point but you've ended up looking a bit silly, calling Benteke the worst striker in the league is so far off the mark is embarrassing.

yawn, i don't rate benteke, he's a bad player. you've apparently watched him over 90 mins and have come to the conclusion that he's good, i'm happy for you, you must be a 'glass half full' type of chap. whereas i see dreadful touch and technique, you see a young belgian international, where i see a great lump with less vision than defoe who blasts the ball into the stands 9 times out of 10, you remember that one good game he had against liverpool a few months back and think he must be the answer to all our problems. i admire your positivity and optimism, sir, but i'm afraid i just can't share it.

Tells me all I need to know about your vision, if you can't read posts properly then how can anyone expect you to be able to form a valid opinion when you watch football. I haven't even said that I wanted him at Spurs, I was merely arguing against your assessment of Benteke being the "worst striker in the league" which you still haven't explained.

Good job countering my post though, if you weren't too busy jumping to assumptions and being condescending then we might have seen a convincing argument from you.... (y)

ok, i'll leave it to the fans to decide which of us has adopted the more consistently condescending tone in this thread. very rarely do i make a serious post on sc, it's always ironic or tongue in cheek. the fact that you jumped on my 'benteke is the worst striker in the league' post, took it literally, and tried to de-construct my statement logically, tells me that you must be a very solemn fellow indeed.

Oh so now you were joking....I wonder what gave me the idea that you were being serious, maybe it was the fact that you quoted your own post and said you were being serious?

You can't expect not to receive a reaction from such an extreme comment designed to get a reaction out of people :)

To me Benteke is just an improved version of Darren Bent. I don't rate him highly, however, we do need a striker and he is fairly decent.

Defoe is experiencing the 'second-half of the season goal-drought'. Defoe/Dempsey with Benteke is much better than Adebayor partnering the former two.

Adebayor slows our counter attack down. With Benteke, I think he'll slot in perfectly with our style of play. With Bale or Lennon breaking forward, they have no one to cross it too because Adebayor is still miles back. Obviously, we have Defoe, but he's been closed down since his partner should be drawing the other half of the defence away from him.

We create so many opportunities, like the Man U game. Just for it to go to waste.

Not joking, but tongue in cheek. Hence 'I'm being serial'. I don't rate Benteke but I was exaggerating for humourous effect. Anyway, this is petty, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

He's nothing like Darren Bent.

Far stronger, brings others into play and links up very well. Still raw in patches, but I can see the talent.
