Pochettino: "Maybe today they have a bit of an advantage - they're ahead of us because they sign and they keep the players they want."

But, but, everyone on here said we didn't need to sign any players... this sounds like the comments of a frustrated manager. Worrying.

Yeah that doesn't sound great does it. Can't read too much into preseason games though.

Wouldn't read too much into this game. I don't think Poch would want to expose any tactical advancements in pre season against a direct competitor for top 4.

I think being well beaten could be a good thing. Might spur them on to step it up a level in the final weeks of preseason and also to accelerate transfer comings and goings. Pretty sure playing 4 at the back didn't help but it seems that Wanyama must be injured because he wasn't on the bench. Defo think we need some real electric pace in the attacking third and another right back.

Reality strikes
We were not just outclassed good and proper-the City machine could have beaten us with their second team.
The only solace is they will do it many times to other unsponsored teams this season.
The bottomless pit of oil money is unstoppable - not bothered about the negative shit I'm writing - got better things to do this season - just wonder when, or if, this shocking period of sport ruled by foreign money will end.
I admire Poch and his philosophy - but I realised it will just be drowned by the greed and avarice that's fu...ng this planet up

Calm down lads. It's preseason.
I am calm. But to believe we don't need to add to our first team means we are prepared to forget about progressing from last season.

We were properly schooled, forget the opposition, we couldn't even cross the half way line for majority of the game.

Two seasons ago, we finished 3rd . bought four players of which wayama was straight into the first team. The rest did play their part ultimately we improved from the previous season. So we expect not to improve the first team and progress from last season.

We will most certainly bully the others but against the other top 6 teams just be prepared to lose.

Regardless it's only football, i always remember to cap my spurs expectations.

True very true. Don't forget that stuff that was introduced called financial fair play

I don't read too much into pre-season friendlies.
Remember, Poch have a very strenuous and hard pre-season fitness regime that, at this moment of time, leaves the players very exhausted (which will effect their on-field stamina/performances).
However, it is a bit of a concern to read Pochettino's comments....as he seem to contradict himself regarding signings.

"We prioritised training, and tried to get fit, over the result, as I told you before Paris Saint-Germain and Roma," Pochettino added

I don't think the issue is we don't believe we need signings but more who do we sign that's not going to harm us financially but still improves us. We don't have oil money. The oil barons spend 220m but make that back in a day pulling oil out of the ground.

Also don't forget Poch is notorious for his preseason training being brutal. But has now calmed down during the season hence our form last season.

As many have said it's only a friendly so don't read too much into it but must confess I turned it off after fifteen minutes as I could see how it was going to go.
Yes we do need new signings that is obvious will we get them maybe or maybe not, what is obvious is how city have improved and like I have mentioned a few times are my shout for the title, and yes money does buy success.

We've finished above them the last two seasons and can do so again. On their best days their Megabucks signings will click and they will be unstoppable. But they will also have days where they play like the strangers they are and lose to nothing sides.

We don't need to do anything to finish above them except keep playing like we did last season. I'm more worried about Chelsea and United.

But also, if we don't win this unfair league, I won't cry. What we've done already is amazing and I'm happy with it.

Oh my Lord! What can I say? It is so difficult to take any positives away from this game. Thanks to the woodwork and some terrific goalkeeping, at least the score doesn't reveal the true gulf between the two teams performances last night. Let's be honest. These are the same players that at the end of last season looked the real deal with some outstanding performances. So this begs the quests, "Have they the ability to step up to the next level?" More worryingly is, who are on the bench? Last night our bench comprised mainly bench and academy players. City's bench was full of proven, reliable first team level players!

On the basis that one swallow doesn't make a summer, I think it is too early to rush into recriminations. However, the warning signs are there. This type of display is unacceptable at the level we aspire to play at and it is imperative that the problems of last night are addressed and put right.
