But that's wrong. As someone who has watched Dempsey play for the US, Spurs, Fulham and Seattle, he is a good footballer. Gets important goals, makes good runs, and is always in the box. He is someone we really could afford to still have on our books. We really missed Dempsey last year, almost as much as we missed Bale. It was unfair to him that he was essentially signed as the replacement for Van Der Vaart because it ensured expectations would be absurdly high from the fans and he would never live up to them leading to garnering the amount of hate he got.

Oh dear on the Bale comment.

As for the rest of it, you have to look at it logically. We'd just signed Lamela, Chadli, Eriksen and already had Lennon, Dempsey and Sigurdsson, and we played 4231 so there were 3 spots available for those players. That's 6 players who will all have expected to play, and this isn't accounting for the breakthrough of Townsend either. Given that three of those were new players, one of Lennon, Dempsey or Sigurdsson would have to make way really. Dempsey was the oldest of the three, he was the only one of the three who didn't qualify as homegrown for UEFA rules, he was apparently on high wages and there was a good offer for him on the table. Given that his first season without us was not seen as a success, it made sense. Little did we know of course that Lamela would end up barely playing, Chadli would struggle to recapture the form which saw us signing and Lennon would have his worst season ever, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. You always have to look at the bigger picture, and in this case the bigger picture just did not involve a guy who was seemingly out of his depth, even with a few key goals.

Sorry, but that's not that big of an achievement, America have never been any good. Hell Robbie Keane is Ireland's greatest ever goalscorer and frankly when you compare both in their primes Dempsey isn't fit to lace Keane's boots.

I loved Keano!
Wonderful footballer & class act.
On the other hand the USA is still in the world cup with all to play for.
..and Dempsey has outscored both Rooney & Sturridge on the world stage -but don't let the facts get in the way of your prejudice!

Looking mean.

I always liked Dempsey. I know he wasn't the greatest player Spurs ever had but I liked his attitude. i wish him and the states well at the World Cup.
