Additionally, while i also wanted Ceballos in a deal that suited us - i think his non-arrival either confirms the fact that Eriksen is likely to stay or that we'll be identifying somebody else for a deal (which could be something to look forward to)

There's a scenario that he does brilliantly, he goes back to Real but they get back into the CL - in which case it will have been worth it.

I'm not chuffed by this at all.

Imagine if it was us getting him with no option to buy while the goons had just signed Ndombele and were close to GLC.

I’d feel sick.

There's a scenario where they don't sign him and somehow get back into the CL cause it all falls into place.
There's a scenario where we both get into the CL cause North London rules the PL this upcoming season.

They're not likely scenario's though and I really don't think them adding Ceballos will DRASTICALLY change their luck. Yes, he's a good player and it'll be a bonus for them but he's basically replacing Ramsey for a year. Whilst they're losing Koscielny at the back and still haven't fixed or addressed their poor defence and even with Saliba that won't be till the 20/21 season for them. Meanwhile if we're taking their media links with Ceballos at face value then we're also looking at adding GLC + Sessengon this week to go with the Ndombele we already have and the ever increasingly staying Eriksen.
So scenario wise... we're doing okay.

Ceballos to Arsenal will cover their loss of Ramsey for one season, then after they will need to search for a top midfielder again.

As for us if losing Ceballos on a one season loan but getting Eriksen to stay is hardly the worst outcome.

Well things just got very interesting, Asensio looks like he has received a very serious injury tonight in the game against Arsenal. This could mean two things, a) they call off the Ceballos deal as they need cover or b) they make a play for Eriksen!

No, it really doesn’t (at least re: Eriksen). They still have Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Hazard, Vazquez, and B. Diaz that are all either recently purchased or held in high regard. Eriksen would likely be brought in to play deeper than where Ascensio lines up, so his injury really won’t have an impact on Eriksen’s future.

As foreign players tend to take a year to settle I don’t expect him to be any value whatsoever

Dont agree with your reasoning... So Ndombele and GLC will also be of no value to us this season then. They need to adapt for sure.. But they wont take a year to settle and they will add value over the season.

i don't disagree that he needs time to settle...

but I think he will be doing his best to impress Zidane. short term, he will be a big improvement in their midfield. but long term... i think it's pretty stupid not to at least have an option to buy on the table.

overall, a big win for Real. they get a little bit of cash, plus someone paying his wages this season. and their player gets first-team action in the very best league, and they don't have to worry about losing a homegrown player.

nice to see arsenal get used, but its a cheap patch, they need someone more long term.

Wouldn’t it be a shame if the bad injury to asensio means Madrid no longer want to let ceballos go to the scum.
