Personally I wouldn't be against it. He has all the basics to be a top quality striker, not sure about works class, but a solid 20 goal a season forward for sure. Height, pace, strength, athleticism, decent finishing technique, all the basic tools.

"Pochettino it is who has helped turn Lambert, whose career had taken in Blackpool, Macclesfield, Stockport, Rochdale and Bristol Rovers, into an international player.
‘I had never really been taught how to play as a lone striker,’ said Lambert. ‘I never really got taught to be a striker in the first place and then I never got taught how to be a lone striker. But he taught me. The thing that I was doing wrong most was the fact I thought I had to show for everyone on the pitch."

No reason the same couldn't apply to Welbeck. If Pochettino can help Rickie Lambert become the plYer he has, then with Welbeck's greater natural gifts, he could be some player.
For a sensible price he'd be a very good signing, but that's the hitch, England internationals don't come at a sensible price.

He simply isn't good enough to justify the kind of price tag United will put on him. You really don't spend £10m-£15m on someone you hope can be turned into a prolific striker.

I wouldn't mind Wellbeck as a utility player or back up for a couple of positions. He can do a job and works for the team, and is also able to stretch a defence....He's not exactly going to set the world alight though. 4 years in regularly playing in the prem though and he is hasn't hit any dizzy heights...not going to improve us particularly...

I really like Welbeck to me he is an athletic and skillful player, he can play as a central striker or winger/striker id be willing to pay up to 15m for him and would have Welbeck ahead of Rodriguez.

i don't know who i'd prefer out of the two but would happily take either, just typical english snobbery on full show here.

He's a good footballer that needs to be a starter as a centre forward. Look what happened to Sturridge when he started playing every game.

His balance is so awkward that it's difficult to watch him play without cringing, even though he is clearly a good player. He's a bit of a Bambi.

i think his record was something like 8 in 8 as a cf last season too. i doubt van gaal will let him go but he'd be a great pick up for us, could slot into that left forward role and double up as a striker when needed, will stretch defences, work hard off the ball, link up. same as jay rod, both are good footballers and we're in need of talented home grown players.

he reminds me of ade quite a bit.

10-15m on welbeck would be a bargain... Some people think we can sign better...Who ??
He's like signing a younger remy that's english...

Would love him to come to us...I reckon they'll be some other top clubs after him too if he does wana go

This, which makes it all the worst when he's played as a winger/wide forward and is tasked with trying to beat a man to get himself or the team with the ball into the box. Have no idea why he's still played out wide, is quite poor at it. Decent striker though, just don't think he'd be worth what we'd have to pay.

You'd rather have a player who struggles for goals in a team who were in and around the top of the league to someone who's managed 15 goals for Southampton.. ?

He played through the middle for Sunderland and was fantastic. The problem for him and for Danny Rose is that they didn't stay there another year and really develop in their respective positions; they both came back having not fully matured but having shown promise in their positions. At teams like ours and Man U the fans demand fully matured players players whereas at Sunderalnd the fans were far more supportive and forgiving because the good was enough to outweigh the bad at that level. I reckon Sturridge was actually stunted in his development during his Chelsea years and should have stayed with Bolton for at least another season in his CF position; he's a great player but he could have got there sooner for sure.

Wellback is a CF. If we buy him to play him as a utility forward he will never be as good as he can be. If we buy him as a CF, we just might see him develop into a very good player. I think he needs a season at Swansea or Southampton where he will be a contender as a CF in a good footballing side and then he'd be ready to compete for the position in a top footballing side.

I would not call six goals in 26 appearances 'fantastic'.

If we want to buy English, Rodriguez looks a better bet, and if we don't Remy will be cheaper. And if we want to develop an English youngster, what's wrong with Kane?

I'd rather we spent half the fee Welbeck would command and sign Loic Remy to play as LWF. Remy is a much more fluid runner with the ball and can score goals with both feet from outside the box.
