I kind of wish this Man City thing hadn't occurred at the same time as the new european super league leak because it gives them leverage to say that if you punish us we will push on with this. Once one of the english clubs puts their head down and goes for it then the rest will follow suit. They are all foreign owned and care little for football in this country or England at all.

If its a breakaway league then which country will they play the games in? If city for example want to play in a new breakaway super league surely the FA or Govt will simply say you cant play games in this country. Havn't read the article and skimmed through comments but this would surely put a stop to it.

The FA/PL can't do anything except impose sanctions if and when they want to return to FA competitions.
And it's got nothing to do with the government.

Why nothing to do with the government? These companies are forming a cartel which is illegal as it should come under the competition act.

Because if the government could step in, then the discussions about it would never have taken place, as it would be a complete waste of everyones time.
There will be ways around it, worked out by smarter people than you and me.

I think that the very concept was always a non starter, but will be used by some clubs to get a bigger slice of the premiership pie...which in itself is pretty sickening.
I remember reading reports about the owners of some clubs (US owned ones I think) believing they should be getting more.

The government can step into anything they want. They can change legislation if they want. They could nationalise those clubs and hand over the shares to the fans if they wanted.

Man City is already nationalised. It’s essentially a state funded PR campaign by Abu Dhabi.

Nothing will come of this. Some big backhanders and it will all be forgotten about. Anytime we hear snippets of corruption in the league, injuries covering up failed drugs tests, PED's winning teams leagues it gets swept under the carpet and never spoken of again. Id be shocked if anything comes of this

Just don’t think it will ever happen.

Gets talked about every couple of years as some huge secret conspiracy being revealed and nothing ever comes of it.

It’s just designed to get more money from UEFA.

I have just heard guardiola protesting the clubs innocence ;considering most of this started before he was at the club and there is no manager anywhere that has full knowledge of financial matters at any club.Still when you getting paid more than 12million pounds a year you would try to plead innocence.I think he should keep his gob shut and his nose out of this affair because if by some slight chance they were to be sanctioned he would come across as being in the know of this.you never know maybe he is because all that the likes of guardiola want is unlimited funds to spend and who cares how illegal it was gained he is just another one that would welcome "The greed is good league"wankers all

He may not have been at City the whole time but he's been firmly in bed with Qatar and the nasty people who run City for years.

Not sure who you think the FA are or why you think they would have any kind of power to ban clubs from being based in England. They could stop certain clubs from being eligible for their competitions but they can't stop clubs from entering another competition if they want to. It's none of their business to be honest.

All due respect but the government have bigger fish to fry at the moment than faffing about with football and FFP issues.

I appreciate they still have to get on with the day to day things while trying to sort out Brexit etc., but starting up a whole new massive issue by trying to put the footballing world to rights just doesn't seem to me like something that will be high on their priorities. They're struggling to do the bare minimum at the moment so it's not really a favorable time for anyone to start opening that can of worms at the moment. Once they start digging into corruption etc. in football it'll almost certainly turn into a real pandora's box.

They really have stopped doing other stuff. There's been extremely, I think unprecedentedly little done with regards to domestic policy since the referendum. Brexit is just swallowing up limited parliamentary time wholesale, and in any case the last thing the government needs is to introduce any more issues to divide their own MPs on.

Mims davies is the minister for sport he should be looking at this. Football is worth £billions to the economy, hundreds of thousands of jobs and will effect millions of voters.

She may well, but ministerial time isn't the problem, it's Parliamentary time. Safe standing has a chance because it probably doesn't need a change in the law, it could be done via statutory instrument. But something like this which would need Parliament to regulate is dead on arrival right now. The amount of stuff they've still got to push through which will vary depending on what deal if any we get is absolutely gigantic. And because they have a tiny majority in the Commons and nowhere close to one in the Lords a lot of it gets held up, sent back etc by opposition parties.

Just a load of old garbage really.

You didn't have to be batman to figure out city were cheating their way to success since their owner is also their sponsor. Duuur it's all owned by the same family!

FIFA, uefa and the prem just turn a blind eye because they're getting gold plated Bentleys in the post .
