Still think it gets done, we need a RWB and HG players and Boro need to sell to buy the players they want for a PL charge, might just take longer than thought

My guess is that the stuff coming from Lyall about moving on/alternatives is just a negotiating ploy. Looks like Forest are gonna get Neco Williams so if we didn’t get Spence where would he even end up? He’s not someone Boro want to keep so we are probably trying to scare them into lowering their price.
Yeah, it's not like the German clubs that are reportedly interested would offer anywhere near as much as us, while there's no noise at all around the other clubs who admire him like Arsenal, etc.

According to this article we're offering 10m and they want 15m which sounds a lot more reasonable than the 20m+ figures that were floating around not too long ago. Hopefully we can meet in the middle or come up with a solution that suits both parties (10+5) or (12m + add-ons) to get it over the line.

As long as he's here for pre-season it doesn't really matter if we finalise it today or in a week's time.

I'm guessing Boro have been getting a bit carried away thinking this was their lottery ticket. We step away then maybe they'll come back to us with a compromise. The big issue if this doesn't happen is what we do with homegrown rules.

Paratici never buys the players we have been linked for long and always pulls a better player out of his arse

But that’s not the point is it? You said it would be embarrassing if we didn’t get his deal done which it absolutely wouldn’t be. For all we know Middlesbrough could be holding out for £30mil which would mean us massively overpaying on a fairly unproven young player who’s been playing a whole division below us.

It takes two parties to negotiate, you can’t just go and get someone , it’s not that simple or easy.

Also it’s 24th June so tons of time left so not sure why you’re panicking so much.
Not panicking at all, stop making stuff up. Of course 30m would be too much. It wouldnt be 30m though. More like 20-25, which is fair. And yes, it would be embarassing if we weren't to get our main rwb target in from a championship side, as long as fees are near enough realistic and not way off

We need this sorted by the middle of next week, one way or the other. Same if there’s a chance for Eriksen. The sales of Carter-Vickers, Bergwijn & Winks would see us break even for our signings so far.

We can then focus all of our efforts on signing 3 big name signings and getting rid of the deadwood, and we can start to put a dent in that £150m!

Well Forster in for Gollini +1
Winks out Bissouma in -1

You'd assume Rodon out, foreign player in -1
An attacking player will likely be foreign although that replaces bergwijn.

This is why Spence feels very important.

I think one issue is the HG quota.

But otherwise I agree, we seem to be investing in elite quality in all areas, but RWB we are taking a punt, which is strange as it's a key position.

Maybe Conte feels Doherty is first choice and good enough, but I don't buy it.
I agree... Spence is a very good talent. He has some skills that are very useful for us. But he is still pretty raw.. the HG-thing we have to manage of course. It's a big part of this deal... if we end up in the 20 mil plus area then Conte must really want him ?‍♂️

Don’t look at me. I’m irrelevant.

If I had to estimate his price before - for a young, English RWB from the Championship in their team of the year - I would've said 15 rising to 20 is fair.

If we're below that, we should pay up and get it done.

It isn't great, but embarrassing is a over the top, motive word that doesn't come into play. Worset thing that can happen is we move onto the next target, not ideal, but not dramatic.

I guess we'd claim unique circumstances. The player has been totally bombed out of the club that holds his contract. I f he achieved that at Boro, fair, but I think we're right to push it at least.

Its the easy thing to assume, but the deal Levy gets involved in and we are haggling over the fee.....

I understand not wanting to over pay but supposedly the difference is supposedly £4m?
Which is probably 25% of the total fee...

Sounds reminiscent to the Berahino deal, in that instance Jeremy Peace was just acting like Billy big bollocks when negotiating for the deal, and even when we did offer the full 20m asking price he said no.

These clubs, that were once close to us but couldn't sustain it, still see Levy as the ultimate nemesis, if he is involved.

Did post on this yesterday Gibson is being unrealistic was like this in the past on downing . Club still want him it will go in longer then we had hoped
Surely if Spence is set on us and Boro (presumably) don’t want to keep him Gibson will have to eventually lower his demands.

If we do get this over the line and move Emerson on which seems most likely then our RWB options for a Champions League and league title challenging season will be Doherty and Spence, even if Conte & Paratici have got this one right and Spence is the next Victor Moses for Conte surely it’ll take him time to get up to those levels?

It just seems strange to me that we are not going for a ready made world class or at least top top quality RWB the same as Perisic on the other side, considering how vital the wing back positions are to this system.

This has been said so many times but apart from Hakimi there aren’t any!
