Shows sympathy for his sending off when he should have been highlighting his girlie scratch on Verts face. Doesn't defend Verts and allows Mourinho to hog the headlines slagging Verts off.

Why?

Only Fergie can beat Mouro at mind games. Mourinho knows that, that is why he didn't try it with Fergie. AVB doesn't need to get involved in that stuff.

Actually think he comes across as the better man, by simply keeping quiet.

This.

Wouldn't win anything by getting all pissy and/or defensive.

Now Mourinho comes of across as exactly the **** he is.

At the expense of Verts?

He's been labeled "a disgrace"

Hung out as a cheat and gets no public backing from his manager.

Nothing to do with mind games, about sticking up for your players.

This - the MOTD presenters were actually praising Vertonghen for not going down when Torres scratched/struck his face and suggested Torres was lucky not to be sent off then and there

If you rise to Mourinho's bait, you create an issue and a story.

To my mind Mourinho probably thinks Vertonghen, being quite inoffensive, has been given an easy ride since he came to England and decides to overemphasise things to attempt to wind us all up, create discord and get under everyone's skin. No doubt he will bring it up again in the return fixture in an attempt to highlight Vertongehn to refs and basically put pressure on our first choice centre back. It's a crafty move. It also makes people forget what a twat Torres was by raking his face. His 'tactics' were clearly shown when he berated Torres for not staying down after the challenge that got him sent off.

I hope Andre gathers the players together on Monday morning and announces:

'As you know I worked with Jose for many years. He is a sneaky fucker and this is just his attempt to destabilise us. We will ignore him and you all have my full backing. I don't care what he says and nor should you.'

This is AVB we are talking about, so he would be more likely to call Mourinho a phallus of immense dimensions.

Why should he lower himself to that? The evidence is pretty damning on it's own

torres was a handful yesterday, probably the best he's played in ages. he was certainly the more impressive spanish striker on the pitch.

He didn't try it with Fergie because he wanted to keep him sweet and eventually take his job.

Worked out nicely for him.
