Just mentioned this in the Euros thread. Lads better be careful. Marseilles has seriously dangerous people beyond anything these guys can probably even comprehend.

Especially if, as reported, they're going around chanting ISIS related songs. Dangerous game right now

Silly to get involved in any fighting or stupid behaviour but I'm thinking back to when we played in Italy a few years ago and Spurs fans were targeted by local hooligans who wanted a fight. That could be the case here by the sounds of things.

Quelle surprise....

I don't get the need to football fans to get pissed and start trouble. Have never understood it.
Neanderthals!!

It gives the rest of the fans a bad reputation and, from personal experience in 1998, it gives the locals an opportunity to try and goad you into a reaction.

That's what it all is, locals goading England fans and getting a reaction......should we expect any different. We'll have 4 weeks of this. Of course they're going to sing those songs, anybody who thinks otherwise is naive in the extreme. They based in one of the most heavily populated muslim areas in France.

Didn't see any russians though, i thought one bit of trouble and they would have been all over it.

So we should expect England supporters to sing songs about Islamic terrorists in Muslim areas of France ?

And yet this is also just locals goading Englans supporters.

It's not that England supporters singing those songs are thick, probably racist, arseholes ?

I know a few Wednesday lads out there, apparently a group of young locals attacked a pub England were drinking in who then retaliated before the police turned up. One of the lads ended up getting nicked because he smacked a local who had just bottled his mate, all in front of the old bill. Obviously he was arrested and the local was just told to fuck off. Stupid to react to it, especially in front of the police but I guess it was instinctive after drinking all day and seeing your mate get bottled. I imagine that'll be his tournament over - he was meant to be out there for all 3 group games. He's currently banged up with no phone and doesn't even know his hotel, which is a great start after his first night!

There was no mention of ISIS songs, which isn't to say they weren't sung and genuinely wouldn't surprise me if they were knowing some of the thick twats that follow England. Chelsea fans got attacked in Paris after singing the same songs last year (after abusing the bloke on the train). But as mentioned above England fans are going to have to be careful, Marseilles really isn't the place to be kicking off/singing those sort of songs.

Problem is England always react to these things, and the locals/other countries know that - I doubt this will be the last bit of trouble we see over the next couple of weeks involving England.

There are ghetto's and gangs there like you can't believe. There are sectors of the city so tightly run by gangs that the police are not allowed in even. Gang members have Kalashnikov's and light artillery. Who's that EastEnders guy? He did a documentary on it a few years back.

then in parallel you have alot of higher level gangsters based there, the Corsican mafia for one, and most pertinent to right now the Russian Mafia. Their bosses live in Monaco adn their 'soldiers' run riot in Marseilles.

Here's a linky to the Ross Kemp episode.

There are alot of French ones too if you search Google/ YouTube.

Most recently the Prime Minister tried to get into the ghetto to do a walk about after Charlie Hebdo and they were seen off under automatic fire. And didn't come back!

I think a few English louts bashing stuff up don't have a bloody chance! They should 'respect' where they are.

So why, when there is history of this kind of behaviour involving England, do we still get put in matches played in Marseille?!?!
Fucking stupid if you ask me...

As per my post in the England thread, I was out there in '98, albeit not in the thick of it as didn't have tickets for England games.
In Nantes, with my bro and one of his mates, we were on a tram to the centre and a group of French college students tried to start a fight with us. I was punched in the back of the head completely out the blue.
Fortunately we hadn't been drinking, or my instinct probably would have been to retaliate.
Instead we just ignored it, while the French woman opposite us apologised for their behaviour and commented that she could tell we weren't out to cause any trouble.

It is a tricky one because whilst I think there are a fair few England fans who are complete fuckwits, I also think they get targeted a lot of the time.

You don't seem to see these scenes with other sets of fans, and whilst I'm happy to dole some of the blame out to the idiots on our side, I get the feeling it's often retaliatory rather than just drunken rampaging.

Not really sure how you do anything about that though, and it doesn't excuse the retaliation (well not completely).

England and English fans are bring targeted these days more and more, it's the reputation they're built themselves over the years and rival fans are targeting them as sad as it is.

I think we're also seeing a new breed.......some of the fellas out there would have hardly been born when France 98 was going on. A new generation brings its new problems.
