Some of you have short memories remember where we were when Lord Sugar was around, we were a mid table side, we could quite easily have been West Ham level if not for Daniel Levy and ENIC.

Instead we have a state of the art training facility and the best stadium in Europe. We're consistently finishing in Europe's elite competition, we haven't finished lower than 6th for NINE SEASONS and we've done it without selling our soul at a time when masses and masses of money has been pumped into clubs from overseas.

Look at our league finishes:

92/93 - 8th
93/94 - 15th
94/95 - 7th
95/96 - 8th
96/97 - 10th
97/98 - 14th
98/99 - 11th
99/00 - 10th
00/01 - 12th
01/02 - 9th
02/03 - 10th
03/04 - 14th
04/05 - 9th
05/06 - 5th
06/07 - 5th
07/08 - 11th
08/09 - 8th
09/10 - 4th
10/11 - 5th
11/12 - 4th
12/13 - 5th
13/14 - 6th
14/15 - 5th
15/16 - 3rd
16/17 - 2nd
17/18 - 3rd

Let's not become like them pricks up the road moaning on YouTube whilst clubs like Bolton are verging on collapse and we're throwing our toys out of the pram for having a bad patch for the first time in years. We should be thankful ENIC came in when they did, it took a few years but look where we were are now to where we were.

It'd be also very useful to show the kind of players we were signing and how much we were paying  We were awful with money back then.

I think a lot of people (though I don't share this view) would moan far less if we'd actually won a trophy, even if just a League Cup, during the last decade. A lot of people will think that yeah, we won a lot of games, but what do we have to show for it?

Had Chelsea and City not flooded the market with dirty money we would've been the model club in every single possible way, and had trophies to show for it as well. Levy has undeniably made mistakes with managers and playing staff on the pitch but he has done everything right off it.

5 year tie up with HSBC announced today focused mainly on UK and Hong Kong. Bringing global partnerships to 16. Seems a definite strategy to be targeting Asia and USA. Very similar to how Barcelona have their partnerships concentrated. The two obvious growing markets in “ soccer”

I agree with the sentiment that from a purely business point of view, ENIC have done everything right since the day they took over. Yes, the club has made some very bad choices of Manager down the years but just look at who and where we are today. It's exactly as our friend NickHSpurs said it, we are truly one of the world's elite football clubs. Last time I looked, we were the 12th richest club on the planet...?

If anyone was in any doubt what ENIC has done for us in the 18 or 19 years they've been in charge, just cast your minds back to when Irving Scholar very nearly bankrupted us and the vultures were sniffing around, looking to pick us up for a song.

Vultures like that bastard gooner crook Robert Maxwell, and the gooner Frank Warren, so thank God for Sir Alan Sugar who managed to step in and stop that from happening, and then to have the good sense to stand aside when it was obvious, he wasn't prepared to stay with us and pump hundreds of millions of pounds into the club over a long and sustained period. ENIC did exactly that but to do that, they sold all their financial interests in the other clubs they'd invested in (I think Glasgow Rangers was one of them).

Of course, it would have been great if we'd won more silverware but that's largely down to poor performances on the pitch rather than ENIC directly. Having said that, we came pretty damned close to picking up the greatest prize in European club football last season in the biggest game in our entire history. So near yet so far. Fingers crossed, we can put that discrepancy right this season with the FA Cup or even another crack at the Champions League trophy (and before anyone says getting murdered by Bayern a few weeks ago has done for us, just think back to last season. One point from the first nine...)! People right us off at their peril!

Very illuminating line from the minutes of the board meeting with THST:
  • MG asked how the figures for the year ending June 2019 were looking
  • DL (Daniel Levy) thought they were looking okay as the UCL run had balanced out some of additional expenses incurred in relation to the extended stay at Wembley
So the fear I articulated last season has been confirmed - the absolute clusterfuck with the stadium opening date cost the club tens of millions of pounds, so much that even reaching the Champions League Final wasn't enough to cover it. Between Wembley rents on a game-by-game basis, rubbish attendances, cheaper ticket prices, 8,000 coroporate packages unfulfilled, NFL cancelled and more, it's cost us an absolute fortune - enough to buy a world-class player - and we'd have been far, far better off just admitting from the start it was going to take two years and planning on that basis. Also explains the 18 month transfer drought if it was becoming apparent that we weren't going to be ready, which has obviously been a disaster on the pitch, and could yet lead to missing out on the same amount again by failing to reach the Top 4, and players either leaving or refusing to join. The long-term picture still looks bright, but this saga was disastrous and by far ENIC's worst moment in charge.

I have absolutely no problem with enic/levy atm, the grass isn’t always greener and all that
I have always been supportive of them. I remember Levy saying the club couldn’t compete at the top end without funding.

I believe he was right on this. Our turnover is higher now and I believe our three signings in the summer was a step in the right direction.

Now Levy needs to get the right system in place to run the first team. I believe a DOF to be the right way forward.

High turnover is no guarantee of success. I just hope Levy is the right man for the next stage because overall he has done a good job so far.

Bit harsh. A large number of big projects run overtime and over budget...

Crossrail is at best £3bn over and two years late. And if hs2 continues...12 years and £20bn over

Also, it seems like the delay was an almighty cock up (wasn't it a bodged electrical installation) by the contractor, rather than simply over reaching.
