Jordan Ibe out for 15 Million
Danny ward out for 12 million
Sakho out for 25 million

That was the year they re-signed Zidane and by all accounts and what was being said at the time Zidane wasn't to keen on him whilst Perez was. You don't think if Real really wanted him they would have got him? Nothing had stopped them in the past - Real normally get their targets if they're serious, seems to me they weren't.

He didn't make it clear that he didn't want to sign a deal until the following summer after the CL final.
Eriksen's performances dropped off at exactly the time he wanted to get a big move, if he'd have been playing at peak Eriksen we'd have got chunks of gold thrown at us. But he looked like a player who couldn't dictate a game anymore, still capable and very good, but not elite.

There were a number of rumors in the summer of 2018 that Real wanted him, a deal could and should have been made. Most people are realistic enough to know that had the club made a deal and said he wasn't going to sign a new contract they would have accepted it.
I don't necessarily disagree with your point about selling Eriksen earlier, but your second sentence is wildly optimistic. Selling another top player the summer after selling Walker would have immediately triggered all sorts of "selling club", "no ambition" noise.

Eriksen's drop off was synonymous with the team's drop off so it wasn't hugely surprising, what was alarming was the level he dropped off to.

I agree, but that happened anyway as we didn't sign anyone, had we sold him we have a decent sum of money to replace him with.

We had a deal done for Maguire from Hull but he got cold feet at the last moment because he thought he wouldn't get in the team and went to Leicester. Then we signed Sanchez instead. David Pleat said it all on 5 Live a little while back. Poch loved Maguire.
I thought I read that he wanted 100 grand a week and we wouldn't pay it?

On Maguire, I assume you’re referring to the time Leicester signed him, as what utd paid was ridiculous. At the time Leicester signed him, we had just had the best defence in the league with Jan and Toby both in their prime, and Dier also having had a good season in the back 3. We went and spent £40m on Sanchez, who was immediately put into the first team by Pochettino, and £10m on Foyth, who all reports suggested was one Pochettino pushed hard for. This cost roughly 4 times what Leicester paid for Maguire, so money was clearly not the issue. I’m inclined to believe that this was driven by manager and scouts, unless you imagine Levy preferring to spend £40m and £10m instead of just £12m.

As for Grealish, probably was Levy’s cock up bit we’ve heard so many variations about what went wrong that I doubt we’ll ever really know.
I didn't think his price was the stumbling block but the wages he wanted £100 grand a week. I thought Leicester paid Hull 20m for him from Hull.

Awfully quiet in here after Levy does business early and get a player his coach asked for. Weird that.
Does it burn you when pappy is criticised or something?

There hasn't been a post in this thread for several days before we signed anyone and not one criticising him for longer than that but less than 24 hours after we do you're in here shovelling that shit?

haha, quality.

There has always been that with Eriksen. He has always been very good without being elite. His downturn in form simply cemented big clubs already existing doubts, the fact that the 4-3-3 has come back in fashion in a big way also probably doesn't help his position.

Inter though are a hyper ambitious club and have a very good chance of joining that level in a few years time. It's just a shame that he was clearly not a managerial signing, mind he is likely to outlast Conte, so it isn't all bad.

His style, also, needs tweaking in Serie A, he needs to play the percentages more, for a player of his technical ability he has always given the ball away too often, when football in the PL is more basketball ish and you are likely to get another opportunity fairly quickly, thats fine but in Serie A you need to be more measured.

I've always been a big fan of Maguire, but I think we got the better deal with Sanchez. Maguire has been a weak link for Man Utd this season.

I agree, I always thought Maguire was overrated. Personally I am glad we got Sanchez instead of him.

I agree, for me Bergwijns goal where he burned him with pace pretty much summed him up for me. I think Maguire would be great in Mourinho's low block don't let anyone burn you over the top philosophy but unfortunately for him he has to be a ball playing CB that plays up the pitch and leaves himself super open to getting burned. Davinson definitely has his flaws but for half the price of Maguire I will gladly take it hahaha

Come on mate. There have been plenty of posts lamenting how he can't get shit done, can't get shit done in time, doesn't back the manager etc. A week ago isn't a long time in preseason.

Are you upset when he gets things right?

I don't care if people criticise, but you should do so when it's due and if you feel then need to do that, maybe you should also give praise when the guy proves you wrong.
