The excitement is in the chase, not when it's an annual procession ending with the same teams winning everything, if you want constant, yearly success then go and support B Munich or Barca!!!
You're saying that as a supporter of a team that has one trophy in 15 years, you haven't experienced constant yearly success to know that it's not exciting. The objective of sport is to win not to lose. Would you really not like to see us having constant success? It is Levy's aim to make us one of the best clubs in Europe.

Well they were certainly smart with their player investment prior to the FFP restrictions As its given then a huge advantage in player trading now

I don't know if ambrovich was planning to make a long term profit with Chelsea or not

But either way I think they type of take over was our only chance to ever win the league and multi silverware and now the FFP is in place I think we've missed the boat and it will never happen

Good news for those who'd prefer to see us do things the right way
I don't think it's the only way just perhaps the quickest way. If we can produce good talent from the academy, get the right manager who wants to win and hates to lose, do some good signings and dont chop and change coach and strategy every two minutes, I believe it can be done.

What the Brand Finance global rankings best illustrate is the disparity between the aims of a football club's board of directors and its fans. For chairman Daniel Levy, Spurs is first and foremost a business whose financial interests must be protected at all costs; on field success is merely an added bonus. When Levy bemoans the way the £90 million windfall for Gareth Bale was spent, his main complaint isn't that Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado and Paulinho have failed to win the club a trophy, it's that the club overpaid for their services. The bottom line is all that really counts.

This is the paragraph for me that highlights the problem with this article.

It basically states that you can only have one of two things...financial success or footballing success. And that is obviously not true.

The value of the club is built on how successful we are. The brand increases in value if we do well. Therefore making smart business decisions INCLUDES bringing success to the pitch. Trying to separate the two so clearly as this article does is just nonsense.

If Lamela, Soldado and Paulinho were all brilliant and won us trophies, then we wouldn't have 'overpaid for their services'. It's as if the article is saying that if we'd won every game this season with goals from all three in each game, Levy would still be annoyed about the cost.

The bottom line is what counts for a company that is, in it's very name, an investment company. But to suggest that we are therefore not even bothered about winning anything is frankly daft.

I'm saying too much of a good thing breeds expectation to the point where the fans will just turn up, spectate (not support: Re Man Ure and in particular the chavs) and just wait for the trophies to come rolling in!!! I for one do not want Spurs to turn into that!!!!

All fans have expectations though, some expectations are just higher than others. I don't think it's a good reason for not wanting success. What is it that you would like us to achieve?

I'm not saying I don't want success, I'm saying I wouldn't want us to be totally dominant. I would rather we won the league 3 out of ten seasons with a few cups, or a CL/EL win, not winning things all the time keeps the excitement, hope and feeling of trepidation up, and so, hopefully, the vocal support!!! Don't want WHL turning into a theatre!!!

If you live long enough to see us totally dominant over a 10 year period in the league, imo you better cherish it because dominance doesn't last forever as Liverpool and Man U fans are finding out.

You really are missing the point.

unfortunately the excitement of the 2011/12 season has already had an effect on the noise at the Lane these days

unless we are in front pretty quickly it's like a restless theatre.

I know we had Kane getting more bums off seats with excitement this season, but it wasn't like the excitement when either Bale or Lennon got.

I really hope we can get that excitement back by the time we move into the new stadium, because the amount of moaners we have now will drown out the noise coming from the kop.
