He'll get a better salary if he goes on a free.

It might be beneficial for both parties if he can find a 6 month loan. We save on some wages for an unneeded player and free up a squad place and he can put himself in contention for a Euros place.

We could let him go on a free in January, free up wages and a squad place and let him get on with his career. Can't see any reason not to allow this.

He is allowed to do whatever he wants with his contract but it does surprise me that he is willing to play little to no football in a year he turns 30, while also turning down the chance to be in the Euro squad next summer.

He has always striked me as an ambitious person, on and off the field, and while we felt bad for him for the social video clip Spurs put out, he could have easily left this summer if he was willing to do so.

It’s possible he thought he could play under Ange.

Hopefully he now knows he’s out of favour and is ready to move.

Surprised he was offered a new contract, we never play him so why would we extend him ?
I think "contract talks have broken down" = he wasn't offered a contract.
Of course he wants to hang on until the end, go for free and get a better wage. Might as well let him go by mutual termination, saves everyone money.
Nothing against Dier, we bought him cheap, I don't think he was ever expected to be a star, or even a 1st team player. So in my opinion he exceeded expectations, and always did his best for us, so wish him well.

Not surprising. Treated poorly by a section of the fans (like other players). Up until his illness he was a decent for us. Don't think he was the same after that, apart from the spell when he got back into the England squad in Conte's first season. He doesn't fit the style and system now, so time to part ways. Wish him nothing but the best.
