Nothing new here, Jose has been saying for a year or so now that he wants Dier and has made no secret about it. Plenty of old articles to back this up.

I read one in the winter TW where he said "Dier will be at ManU if not this winter it will be next summer"

Such an arrogant shit, if that's not tapping up I dont know what is.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s £50 million valuation of Dier is more than United expected to pay for the 23-year-old

I love the sheer arrogance in this statement. Implicit is the idea that United just assumed they'd get Dier if they went for him. "More than they expected to pay" implies the deal's as good as done just because United say so, and they're offended that they might not get him for the amount they decided he was going to cost, completely irrespective of the opinions of the club which actually owns the player.

Of course this is just made-up journo bullshit anyway as you can 100% guarantee that Levy will have in no way given United any kind of valuation, as that implies we are willing to sell. The response Levy will have given United, if he gave any response at all, will simply have been "Eric Dier is not for sale at any price".

Telegraph making stuff up now. :(

Someone, probably UTD, making stuff up. Sam Wallace Telegraph reporter the willing stooge in exchange for some other juicy morsel from his well connected puppeteer in the future.

It stinks, but they're the rules of the game .

Dier is critical to Poch's ability to change his team formations around in game time. Plus he is young, an England international, a handsome strapping lad and Dele's best mate etc.

The quotes of 50m quid make me laugh. How about starting at 60m quid you muthafu*as. After all you paid 80m plus quid for Carlton Palmer's love child.

The figure must be made up but there is truth in the story sadly.

Every top ITK has said he's not leaving, pretty clear that Poch loves him as he changed our formation in order to accommodate both him and Wanyama. I've no doubt that Utd are interested, but we aren't selling him.

What would worry me is if 2 or 3 of our players go in this window, not just the fact that it obviously weakens us but they might go to our main rivals like City or Utd. I don't care that we might get 50 to 60 mil for them I just don't want anyone to leave.
It will be interesting to see how Levy handles this transfer window as we know he likes a deal and there is big money on offer for our players. If he takes the money then he obviously hasn't any interest in the title.

Dier is critical to our transformation from defense to attack and I would not trade him for anyone. Most people look at him as a utility player but he is not.

Sorry mate but this is such an ill informed post, it's exactly the view the media and other club's fans portray. Levy has only sold our top players when he had no other choice, he held onto both Modric and Berbatov a season longer after they both publicly stated they wanted out if both had of been happy to stay I have no doubt they would have remained. Bale is the same and even when offered more money from United, Levy from what I know didn't even consider it.

The potential sales of both Walker and Dier are very different than Modric, Berbatov or Bale, neither are high enough profile to force a move and also as a club and team we are much better. If Levy sells either this window it's because Poch has oked the deal.

We won't want to sell him but there are many more factors involved.
I hope we don't have to sell him but the player must also want to stay.

Telegraph making stuff up now. :(

probably just the political writers penning for the sports pages thiat week

;)

I agree that it sounds suspect as £50m seems very low for Dier in today's market, to a rival

ITK information last week indicated that Dier might be moving and then (later) that Dier was staying.

Initially I thought that maybe this was agent talk to disrupt a 'happy' and successful team but now I'm wondering whether this sort of information is put out there by bookies to have people betting on what is unlikely to happen.

The Telegraph newspaper was the first to break the (most recent) story of Dier being on his way out. But it's also interesting to note that this possibility was earlier brought to light on SC - the same day or a day earlier. Is it a coincidence that the Telegraph story came shortly after the 'meltdown' here on SC? I think not. Odds of Dier moving from Spurs have changed appreciably since the Telegraph story broke. And now the latest ITK says that Dier will not be moving at all.

Bookies stand to make a wad of cash on this situation - particularly (now) so many extra bets placed on him leaving the Club.

It's not so easy for bookies to have a major (unlikely) story on a player leaving a club in the mainstream media. But spreading disruptive news in a fan forum is not as difficult. And reporters (looking for a news story) are always eager to promote news gleaned from a forum such as SC.

Dier may or may not move - but the Telegraph story has contributed massively to the turn-around in the odds of Dier leaving.

I wonder what fellow Spurs Community contributors think a forum such as SC has on transfer odds.

I very much doubt the ITK was related to bookies or betting.
