http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...oan-Erik-Lamela-to-Atletico-Madrid-in-January

HE WAS bought as a replacement, but it now seems that Erik Lamela could be following Gareth Bale from Tottenham to Madrid in January.

The Argentine ace has struggled to adapt to the Premier League after making a £30m switch from Roma in the summer.

And now reports in Spain suggest that Andre Villas-Boas is ready to send Lamela to Atletico Madrid on loan in January.

It is thought that tentative negotiations have already begun over a short term deal, that would see Lamela return to White Hart Lane in the summer.

The 21-year-old has started just two Premier League games for Spurs this season and has scored a single goal in the Europa League.

It is not the impact Tottenham had hoped for when they splashed such a substantial chunk of the £85m they received for Bale on the former River Plate star.

Now Villas-Boas is hoping that some time in La Liga will help restore Lamela's confidence and help him continue to develop.

Atletico are in market for a new attacking midfielder, and have been linked with a move for Chelsea's Kevin De Bruyne, as they become increasingly concerned about losing Koke to Liverpool, Manchester United, AC Milan or Barcelona.

Atletico have become an increasingly popular loan destination for English clubs in recent times, with Chelsea keeper Thibault Courtois having spent the past two seasons with the Madrid club.

I would not be happy with freeing up players to strengthen our rivals again (like what happened with Ozil)

Atletico, dont want to sell to Barca hence them listening to offers now imo.

I think we should be going all out for Koke, he is the one midfielder we need and we will hopefully be doing better than our rivals come january.

As for Lamela it makes sense for Atletico to sign him on loan as they want both De Bruyne and Mata, but neither can play in the CL this season which is the big issue, as they probably fancy themselves.
I'm 100% sure that this won't happen.
I agree I dont think we would sell as it would be say we got something wrong by spending the huge amounts of money on him. But I can see why atletico want him

Fucking joke if this happens, laughing stock of a club, shockingly badly managed club from top to bottom

I edited the post above, but no I think we could do with both for the future!

Koke can play DM, CM, AM and on the wings hence his interest being high, he is no way a replacement for Lamela.

I personally would consider letting Lennon and Siggy go

Utter rubbish.

And, Diego (that we wanted some time ago) is likely to go to Santos with De Bruyne going there to fill the void.

I'd love us to sign Koke, that would be a terrific signing but it makes no sense to send Lamela there though.

Don't get angry about something that is clearly not going to happen. It's a waste of energy

I did put if in my post I'm far from convinced of it happening as it would be a terrible move by the club on just about every level

I would agree with this if it were true, although I believe (and sincerely hope) that it's just made up by a sports journo trying to fill a few column inches.
The way to get a player adjusted and settled in to the PL is to play him in the PL, not a foreign league. Lamela has already proven he can adjust to a foreign league and different culture he just needs playing time now

Like you I would be seriously concerned if we were seriously thinking of this

I wouldn't be massively opposed to him going on loan in the Premier League. Swansea maybe would be a good fit with lots of Spaniards. Help him adapt to the PL, lots of minutes and he'd feel like a big dog again. Plus he might take some points off of other clubs aiming for the top 4.

To Spain though? Leave it out.

We not really consider to loan out a 30m Pound signing to Swansea? he HAS to do it here and he can do it...ffs

Lamela at Swansea. That is ludicrous- he cost £30m FFS

Not a chance he'll be loaned out... I honestly think this is AVB just trying to bed him in.. as with Lloris.

Can see he has the talent, and has proved it at his previous clubs.. just not throwing him in at the deep end, and introducing him slowly to get him acclimatised

:) I said this could happen - it is not without its merits.

He needs regular first team football.
He is not going to get that at Spurs ATM.
Swansea would be an ideal match for Eric for to bed-in to UK football.
His price is totally irrelevant - he needs games.

Now we dont know if this is just media speak or not, but it does make sense on many levels.

We need Lamela to learn the language, lifestyle and adjust to the pace and physical side of EPL. How would this happen if he was loaned to a team playing in Spain!?

I still think he's best suited to the number 10 position and not coming in off the wings.

Either way he needs to remain at Tottenham. I'm sure with time he will come good. Maybe even next season!

The only down side... When you pay £30M for a player you expect him to be a world star who's ready to play NOW! But it's not Lamela's fault how much we paid for him.

I'd be very surprised if this happens. BUt the bit that made me laugh was about spending time in La Liga to restore his confidence.

If he had been played against Newcastle when his confidence was sky high rather than away to Citeh, it might not need restoring right now!!!
