There isnt a player in the world who would not want to play for Real Madrid if they got the chance, the list of gongs that Bale has won since he went there is testament to just how attractivethe prospect of going there would be for any ambitious professional. I would not begrudge Eriksen wanting to move there at all. The fact that it is only when they came sniffing around him that he started stalling on signing a new contract tells me that he would not aggitate for a move away from spurs to any other club, therefore I would have no doubts about him committing hiself to our cause next season if he stays, and I would be delighted if he does. He is one of our handful of truly world class players, and we need to hang on to them.

Hope he stays, even with his poorer season just gone he is a match winner and still some impressive stats.

Of course. It also sends all the right signals to the rest of the football world regarding Spurs.

Well that is jolly nice of him, after his embarrassing public flirting with Madrid got knocked back, he is willing to accept a pay rise.

But i say nahhh, lets make a break. Its not us, it's you. Im already over him.

Has he ever mentioned Real Madrid specifically?

I agree totally.

However, unfortunately we'll be classed as Eriksen haters who don't/can't appreciate the good he's brought us on the field since he joined us.

I've literally never slagged him off as a player, I've defended him in his player thread & always supported him when he's donned our shirt. But he's openly said he doesn't want to be here (colour it any way you want, that's what he's done) and that's the only reason I'm now preferring a future without him.

Yep, last week he gave an interview to the Danish press and he apparently said this when discussing his future and where he'd like to go:
"(Real Madrid) is a step up. But it requires Real Madrid to call Tottenham and say they want me. And they have not done so yet, as far as I know"

Isn't it pretty obvious that he gave that interview to send a message to Real Madrid - ie if you want me, make a proper bid instead of flirting around it, or I will sign a new deal at Tottenham?

He's obviously frustrated that they've said in private they want him, but haven't followed through on that with a proper bid.

What he's done with that interview is helpful to THFC as it brings the situation to a head - if they don't come in for him, he signs a new deal. If they do, he goes. Either way we all know where we stand.

i have to say I don't get the negative people on here wanting EC to leave now after what may happen,
Yes he admitted if a offer came in he would go(Real Madrid most likely), but also says he would stay too.
in any job if you have the chance to go for more money and better chance of success (but we are getting there too) we would.
he has been loyal to us and is a match winner so why would anyone not understand.
but yes we all have Spurs as our first and only love (sorry wife and kids ;))
so I personally don't have any ill feelings for any ex Spurs player, yes and even him too( Sol).

Am I the only on here not that bothered that he said he may want a new challenge? Been here for 6 years and hadn't won many trophies which if you think about it shows a lot of loyalty when he could have easily fucked off by now so you can't really blame him in that respect.

If he goes then we thank him for his service and wish him all the best, if he stays then great he signs a new contract and puts his head down next season, at least him staying would be far better for us than him leaving.

Im not bothered he wants to go. Im just worried that if he doesn't, he won't be fully committed to us and will end up like that bulgy eyed **** up the road.

As far as I can work out, all Eriksen has done is tell the truth. Yes, he'd like to play for RM - that's hardly a shock, but he's also said he'll be happy to sign a new contract if that doesn't happen. He's given us a lot of good years and hasn't caused a moment's bother and yet people see fit to berate him as if he's pulled a full on Berbatov on us. He deserves a substantial pay rise given what other players with his ability are on but I've never heard him gripe about anything. Hope he stays personally.

I'm all for him staying but he has to sign and I suspect the club will put pressure on him to sign. Pretty sure in thr interview he gave he said that he'd sign if Real don't come in for him and it looks like they won't.

Loads of Spurs fans on Twitter hate him now though, maybe because it has a lot to do with the season he's just had but generally I think if he leaves its gonna hurt us more than people think.

well you know, if he says he dont wanna play here anymore but if he must he'll have a pay rise thank you very much, he is heroically honest, if you say you dont want him here anymore because his heart isnt in it then you are a bad bad man.

the way the world these days, innit

Honestly i think a change may be as good as rest for both parties in this situation. I dont bear him any particular ill feeling, but i dont hold any particular fond feeling either. He is a player who played for us once. cheers danish bloke.

To be fair, loads of Spurs fans on Twitter have never been to a game and won't go to games so I doubt Eriksen will ever have to put up with them bad mouthing him where he can hear it.
