I too, am a little wary of Carroll's ability to impose himself in games. But I completely trust Poch. He's scored two recently..and I'm guessing he's continuing to score from all over the pitch in training. Poch probably feels his inclusion could be worth that vital goal in comparison to Mason or Bentaleb.

I also think Carroll, Dier and Alli are close and have a really good understanding on and off the pitch - this may also factor into his reasoning. Poch seems to truly value team cohesion.

Just my guesses/thoughts.

COYS!

I can't see anything other than a resounding win in this game. They're an unbalanced side with a flappy goalie.

1-4

I'm actually quite relieved that Deulofeu is not starting this one. He's been at his best in recent matches.

Oh as if that matters. We were also beating Newcastle until Carroll was taken off, but that didn't stop our "supporters" from blaming him for the defeat.

Honestly, some of our "supporters" are an embarrassment.

Bang on. I think a lot of his criticism is due to nothing more than subconscious scapegoating due to his size, which is ridiculous.

Everton's midfield is talented, but one of the slowest and most lethargic in the league. "Lightweight" is not an issue today.

People shouldn't be making him a scapegoat, which is ridiculous. But by the same token I don't think people should be afraid to express a concern over his selection today down to the type of the game it is without being fucking pelted with abuse and bunched in with the ones who just declare him shit.

I guess its all about how you deliver and word things.

I like him as a player but I wouldn't of picked him today - not the game for him IMO. But its Poch's opinion that counts and I fully back it despite my reservations.

Everton forum very upset with their team news, one has even gone as far as saying he's not even going to bother going to the game: :D

I literally want to cry, Lennon and Kone on the wings with Deulofeu and Mirallas sat on the bench
That team again. I give up even complaining now, he won't ever change his ways.
Clearly one eye on the cup game there.
Ffs. I've lost all faith in Roberto if we lose this. Moyes esque in his favourites. Only bonus is he doesn't like osman
He doesn't learn. Hope the game's not dead before the subs come on.
State of that team
Genuinely don't want to watch this match
Haha shocking. Kone over Mirallas yet again.
League Cup clearly playing into this.
Well, that's the price you pay for being "glad" Lennon is getting a game.
Martinez walking on very, very thin ice here. He must be high off his nipples
Spineless clown picking howard again.
Kone over Kev this manager is a joke
Will be overtaken by Chelsea in January..

Seriously my son 18 years old hasn't missed a game at home for 7 years
Has told me he not going today now he has seen the team looking at the rain outside can't be added me self
But I'll go ASA ever just wanting to win.
Last season ticket I buy him anyway he lived on daddy's yacht far too long

I agree with the carroll coments but still fully trust poch to have made the best choice.

We have fantastic bench too full of players who are hungry for the first team!! Subs could swinh it but i still see us winning by a couple goals.

It's amusing that people are criticising the Carroll selection despite the fact that it was when he went off against both Newcastle and Watford that we started losing control in midfield. He wasn't at all poor last week and deserves another start. It's also important to remember that both Bentaleb and Mason are working their way back to full fitness so maybe not ready to start and Alli doesn't quite provide the same skills as Carroll when played deeper.

I get your point, mate. But posts like "why pick Carroll the weakling" etc are, in my opinion, nothing but pathetic.

There's no issue with anyone who says "I think X would have been a better choice", but abusing the lad is nothing short of childish & unnecessary

Yeah looking at their team news, I must admit it definitely looks like they have an eye on their semi final on Wednesday.

Reasonably confident.
