FOX Sports to hire Brad Friedel as soccer analyst

Brad Friedel is getting a new gig. The veteran goalkeeper, currently third choice at Tottenham Hotspur behind Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm, will be hanging up his gloves and taking a job with the FOX network as a soccer analyst beginning next year.

The news was announced just a bit ago in a segment aired on the FOX network. Friedel, 43, signed a one-year contract extension with Tottenham Hotspur this past summer but it was expected that he would probably retire by the end of this current season. Some speculated that Friedel may try for his badges and move into a coaching role for Spurs or some other club.

The FOX segment did not specify what Friedel will be doing, only that he will be an "analyst" for the network. It's not known if this means that he will be a color analyst for matches, will be in the booth, or a "special correspondent" for FOX. Friedel had previously worked several international tournaments for FOX, including working as a studio analyst for the 2012 Champions League final, and has also called a few EPL matches as a color analyst.

Friedel is nearing the end of a long and outstanding career as a goalkeeper, and is considered one of, if not the, best American keepers of all time. During his 21-year career, he has played for Liverpool, Aston Villa, Blackburn, and Spurs in the EPL, and has been capped 82 times for the US Men's National Team.
