So, what does everyone think Jose will play when everyone is fit?

I think this is the team we all want to see right?

Lloris
Doherty Dier Toby Reguilon
Ndombele Hojbjerg Lo Celso
Son Bale
Kane

The bench is so hard to call, we’re leaving out some solid squad players...

Subs: Hart, Sanchez, Davies, Winks, Dele, Lucas & Vinícius

Backup: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Sissoko, Lamela, Bergwijn, Tanganga & Gedson

I get flutters when I see that team.

I'd feel a bit bad for Sanchez, as I believe he's a better CB than Davies. However you absolutely have to have a left footed CB in a 3 ATB, so I think Davies is the right call.

I think people are overestimating Reguilon and whether he'll walk straight into the team as a preferred choice. I also think there will be heavy rotation between say 15 players.

Lloris

Doherty
Dier
Toby
Regulion

PEH
GLC
Ndombele

Bale
Kane
Son

that team is dirty good.

add a CB and CM and ST and with some time we could do anything under Jose.

If mid season we can finally line up like that, would be great. Although I'd be interested to see Tanganga given a shot at RB.

Bumping now the window is over, well apart from the domestic one!

I’m interested to see how the midfield 3 evolves.

In my mind a balanced 3 has a holding player, a creative playmaker type and a high energy box to box runner.

Assuming 2 competing players for each role:

Hojbjerg is obviously the holding player, and winks is the only other option really (even if not his ideal position).

I think glc and ndombele will compete for the creative slot, although glc can play any of the positions. I wouldn’t play them together too often personally as we need rotation with so many games and need to always have one of them on the pitch to link the play.

Which leaves Sissoko and Dele as the box to box players. Moussa obviously stronger but Dele better at late runs into the box and scoring goals. I think Dele can turn himself into a box to box “8” with work rate and tactical discipline added to his attacking threat and energy. He is the only one who could realistically be a regular goal threat from midfield but perhaps you’d go with Moussa against big teams to help dominate the midfield as we did against United. Dele to be an extra goal scoring threat against teams who sit back.

Just my opinion... (also just taking advantage of being logged in again now the window has shut!)

This is how the midfield squad seems to primarily be molded:

Creative attacking midfielder: Ndombele, Dele
Box-to-box midfielder: Lo Celso, Sissoko, Gedson
Holding midfielder: Hojbjerg, Winks

Ndombele and Dele will almost certainly be the midfielder with the least defensive responsibilities when on the pitch. Winks can also be B2B midfielder, Gio & Gedson can also be the creative midfielder.

I would replace Doherty with Aurier and that for me would be the strongest team in the EPL.

Good luck with that defence above with the clear lack of pace through the centre.

You can see why Jose was moaning about the number of subs allowed on the bench. We would really benefit from the Serie A system of having as many on the bench as you like. Jose likes to have GK, LB, RB, CB CM and will probably have Vinicius also locked in on the bench leaving one slot for AM/WF. That means 2-3 out of Dele, Lucas, Bergwijn, Lamela and Bale will miss out.

I think Jose is going to have to be creative with his defensive options on the bench and have Tanganga and Davies who can cover CB and the respective FB roles allowing for one more attacker.

Luckily with so many midweek games we always have the promise of a Europa squad place to cheer up those that miss the squad entirely at the weekend.

Add Skrinier in January?

And then we have Sess, Skipp, Cirkin Clarke, Parrott, White (ignoring Foyth) to come back next season.

A headache for someone but it is long time that we have had such depth to our squad...if ever.

He can be even more creative and just have Tanganga on the bench who can cover all 4 positions. We have too many attacking options to exclude them from the 18

We have options which is what is needed.

The line-up & individuals will be very different for Man City away compared to Burnley at home.

We're better equipped for the more attacking line-up/bench but we still have players comfortable in possession which is important away at the top sides.
And our counter-attacking potential means we should have huge confidence even for those matches.

This is the strongest squad we've had in years. Exciting times. No one can lose form and keep a place anymore!

So just looking at the training photos it looks like Bale, Tanguy, Son and Vinicus are in full training and Lo Celso has also remained in the UK for treatment on his injury. Exciting times ahead. Think missing the international break will do Tanguy the world of good as it gives Jose more time on the pitch with him whilst allowing him a breather.

Anyone else shitting it that we pick up some injuries to key personnel whilst they’re away on international duty?
