Fashanau should have gone to prison for what he did to Mabbs if you did that on the street it would be a serious assault '.
What a coward that man Fashanau was I will never forget the sight of Mabbuts face caved in .
Myself and my sons idolised Mabbutt mainly for his attitude of never say die and having his career cut short by a rubbish human being was hard to take .

He did play on for a while after the cowardly attack from fashanau, which was a mighty effort to comevback from that while also fighting diabetes throughout his career

I downloaded the form just to have a look. It all seems fairly straightforward except it needs the nominee's email address. If we had that, I'd be happy to fill it in and send it off. We could then get any letters of support and attach them to it as that can help with a nomination.

I'll have a think and see if there's any way I can get it.

Gary Mabbutt is a great man.

It was my birthday this week and for the second year I received a telephone call from Gary. I asked him about the time he had his foot 'nibbled' by a rat in the Kruger Park (South Africa). It turns out he is a regular visitor to Africa and loves being out in the bush where there are no fences between you and the wildlife (which is also my passion). We swapped African anecdotes for about 15 minutes. He has made thousands of these birthday calls and never seems hurried to end the call. A true legend.
