Tottenham join Liverpool and Man Utd in Gedson Fernandes transfer race

"Tottenham are studying a move for £35million-rated Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes. Manchester United and Spurs' Champions League Final opponents Liverpool have already been linked with the young star of Portuguese football.

"But the north Londoners are now making the bigger play to land the 20-year-old enforcer and have moved ahead of their top-six rivals in the queue. Representatives working for Fernandes were in England last week and met with potential suitors.

"The player, born on the African island of Sao Tome and Principe, joined Benfica aged 10 and rose through the ranks before breaking into the first team last summer. He has been capped all the way through Portugal’s age groups with his first two senior caps this season."

Florentino Luís is the better prospect IMO and has now taken Gedson's starting spot. Gedson hasn't started a league game since January.

No doubt they will sell him this summer but i'd be pretty wary spending a lot of money on Gedson.

From what I’ve read, Florentino Luis shone again. Think he would be a sensational pick up at this point

We need someone of this ilk. No idea if he's any good though. Anyone seen him?
I'm working in football in Portugal and the general consensus is that he's very very highly rated. He's very much a box to box midfielder who hasn't really found his role yet, which is understandable considering his age.

Benfica changed their coach and with it he preferred a different balance in midfield meaning he was dropped. As usual with young kids it's going to depend on what poch sees that can be developed and how it fits in with what we do.
