We couldn't register him for this season, would need special dispensation which we would not get, so forget him, or anyone else for that matter.

Trouble with sturridge is, we need a fit striker. With him there’s no guarantee he’ll be fit each day let alone each week. It would be like Carroll at Newcastle.

Why would we need special dispensation?

Because you cannot register a player that was in contract at the end of the transfer window, outside of it.

Just think about it, what you are suggesting is that any club could just ask a player to force a situation to mutually terminate their contract and then sign for us at any point in a season, what would be the point of a transfer window ?

Thanks for the explanation.

I know this isn't relevant to today but was just watching Soccer AM and Lua Lua is on there saying he's a spurs fan (grew up in Hackney) and was all set to move to us from Colchester before eventually going to Newcastle. That was around the year 2000.

Bullet dodged, one of the worst professionals you'd ever witness and this is coming from someone that knows him personally, trust me :D

Actually he'd probably fall in line with the kind of players we'd normally sign those times.

I’m not sure drinkwater with him publicised off pitch problems this year is the kind of signing you want to make in January. A cleverer one would be trying to get one of those kids out of Liverpool with the promise of 6 months premier league football. They’d be much hungrier and more well behaved.
