Guardiola 'heads for talks' over becoming the next Russia manager

Pep Guardiola is expected to arrive in Moscow on Friday amid claims that he has signed a preliminary agreement to become Russia's next manager.

Fabio Capello has already expressed his interest in replacing Dick Advocaat, and sources at the Russian FA's executive committee meeting on Wednesday claimed a contract had already been signed with a new coach.

Spartak Moscow owner and oil tycoon Leonid Fedun has already confirmed he is willing to help fund Guardiola's salary.

The former Barcelona boss is at the beginning of a sabbatical, but Russia's most respected newspaper Sport-Express claims he will be in the Russian capital on Friday.

The post has proved flexible in the past, with Guus Hiddink allowed to spend much of his time abroad while manager of Russia.

Guardiola has long been linked with the Chelsea manager's job, with Blues owner Roman Abramovich a long-time admirer of the Spaniard.

But Abramovich handed Roberto Di Matteo a two-year deal to take the reins at Stamford Bridge following the club's Champions League triumph in Munich in May, ending talk of Guardiola considering an offer from Chelsea.

I thought the talk was surrounding Mancini quitting City and taking the Russian national job? I guess if they're gonna be lavishing money on the new manager (aka FA / eriksson / capello) they're gonna interviewing a few of the best availalbe.
