Missing football, not missing Spurs given the current state of play at the club.

Actually, this sounds sad but, I'm missing Fantasy Football. I'm going well this year and will be disappointed if it ends as it is.

Missing sport in general more than anything else though. Masters is meant to be kicking off this week and I'm very sad that it's not.

I don't want to derail this thread but...

It really bugs when people take this stance and always use football as the target, what about the many other industries that generate the same if not more money?

Why are footballers always the villain in these scenarios?

No matter the industry, if your in a position where you can negotiate a contract and your employer or potential employer offers you the terms that you want - good for you. No one was held up at gunpoint during negotiations.

It's not a footballers fault that other industries don't pay their employees more or what they deserve.

Everyone hates footballers but will happily carryon paying their wages ?

Me too, I've two people ahead of me in our league, it was about 80 points in January and I'm down to about 15. I was finally beginning to real them in.

Nah. But I fell out of love with the game a while back. Bit of entertainment when I have the time is all.

I don't envy those still fully immersed RN tbh. Like the worst kind of footballess summer window possible.

I’m missing Spurs even though I haven’t enjoyed much about this season but not to the extent I thought I would. I’m definitely missing playing weekend football a lot more - can’t wait to get back to it especially as I may only have a few seasons left in me!

To each their own but I miss it. I miss all the sports/teams that I follow. I only started following Spurs around 2011. I really fell for them in 2012 and I fell for them harder than I ever expected. Previously I was a typical American soccer fan who had a fling with the sport every 4 years for the World Cup but no allegiance to any club.

I will say that I’m surprised that a Spurs forum, which has many members with thousands of posts, has more than half of the responses being ‘no’. I’m not saying anyone is right or wrong. I’m just surprised.

Not to be rude but you'd understand if you'd supported Spurs for decades of disappointment. It's not your fault that that isn't your situation - You've supported Spurs through our decade of being not completely fucking dogshit which is brilliant. For those of us who were there before that can see us going back to being dogshit and our "glory" period amounted to absolutely nothing.

Also - We have memories of when football wasn't full of absolute spoilt brats (to put it politely). It might very well only be rose-tinted glasses of us seeing things when we were younger being better than it is now - But football now is shit. The game that we grew up as children with for me that is the late 80's and early to mid 90's is unrecognisable in comparison to what we have today and to some (including myself) it's dead.

Being tied to it, unable to escape, like some Stockholm Syndrome loser and some smackhead heroin addict is the most embarrassing thing for me over the past 5 years. But the last 12-18 months I've mostly been able to shake it and no longer give a fuck.

I wish I'd only got into football around 2010. I'd probably think this is the greatest thing ever - But it's not. It's a vapid, soulless, money pit of shit. The fans and only interested in "banter" - I've heard plenty of people say "I just don't want Spurs to lose because I don't want to have to face the messages/'banter'" and abuse from their "mates"

I go on Spurs social media posts from time to time - always a mistake - It's full of people who have never stepped foot in Britain, let alone been to a PL game in person, dishing out shit about "What have Spurs won though" - "Put that in your trophy cabinet" -"Harry Kane can't speak properly, what's he won though?" - And they've all chosen, as grown adults, to support some team that wins trophies and they somehow think that makes them Godlike individuals who can dish out a ton of shit.

Whenever I try to engage with those individuals and try to say - Well, look you say Harry Kane is a failure who's won nothing - What have YOU done in your life that puts you in a position to say that? Please list all of your success stories...

But nah. Nothing.

Fuck football, basically. Set it on fire and shit on the ashes.

You've pretty much summed up my feelings exactly, particularly about the banter culture, albeit I guess that was always there to a degree. But hearing banter from fans who have just handpicked their team because they're successful, rather than follow with a passion because they're local fans or have family ties, is really hard to swallow.

I can't begrudge people wanting to get in on the action and follow a Premier League team. It's a great league with a huge following, and I understand that people want to be part of it, but I also feel like you should only follow a team if you have local or family ties to them. Being a die-hard Man United fan from Sri Lanka, or a hardcore Liverpool fan from Singapore just doesn't make sense to me. Then again, I know we have some hardcore fans who aren't from the UK as well.

I'm not sure if I'd feel the same, and maybe it's because I'm from a country that has good football and a strong league. Perhaps I'd feel differently if I was from Bosnia or Senegal or something.

Anyway, going back to the topic at hand. I guess I have fallen out of love for the game. I haven't missed it one bit. Perhaps that's down to the dogshit season we were having, and maybe I'll get back into it when it's back on, but it's lost some appeal for me over the years. I love how well our club has done compared to the mid table mediocrity of my childhood, but in this modern age it's hard to care about football.

Respect the post and understand that there’s a lot of history from before my time supporting. Not rude at all. I hope it was clear that I was not preaching to any other supporters and what their feelings should be on the current situation. I’m just surprised.

As far as the never stepped foot in Britain people, I’m happy to say that doesn’t apply to me. Even made it to WHL twice and Wembley twice (with a respectable 2-1-1 record in those 4 matches). Still looking forward to my first trip to the new place. As soon as there’s a home match happening while I’m visiting my in-laws in Paris I’ll get there. Unfortunately I don’t know when either of those things will be scheduled...

No and especially not since the dinosaur has taken over with his "shit hanging off the end of a stick" brand of football.

I hear you, and I didn't take your initial post as preaching - Far from it. I fully respect your view point, and I understand it.

And I didn't mean to sound judge-y about people who've never stepped in Britain - I appreciate that football is a global phenomenon and that naturally will attract people worldwide - Back a few years ago I'd just get really upset after defeats - Then I'd be on Spurs social media, Twitter or whatever, and you have some little bastard from Botswana giving it large calling us "legends" because we had the audacity to lose a match.

The "legends" tag is another thing which drove me to the brink of despair also alongside the "what have they won tho?" bullshit. As if Spurs are the only team in the world who lose football games and the only team in the world who don't win trophies in any given season. Do Everton get that shit? Do Newcastle get that shit? Do West Ham get that shit? No. No. No. They don't. And I've never been able to understand why - It was magnified during that season Leicester won the league - The only legitimate reason I can think of that this happened is because we had the audacity to try to challenge for the league and to upset "The Fairytale" of Leicester winning the league. Since that season the response to Spurs has been pretty vitriolic, and gets worse. The football media hate us, football fans of 99% of the other clubs seem to hate us. I just find it hard to process all of that, and to me it's not worth it. I don't need that negativity in my life personally, I have enough shit to deal with as it is, I don't need to add to that with what I choose to do for entertainment purposes.

Ive been a sports fan here in the US since late 70’s when I was tiny. So sports have been a part of my whole life and even how I make my living now. Here’s how I came to support Spurs from across the pond, because we have time...

Like I said, I was a typical once every four years American soccer fan. But in 2010 I spent some time for work around the US men’s National Team so I felt a little bit more invested than previous years. Also, I went to France for the first time with my then girlfriend, now wife, while the World Cup started. As bad as that French team was, simply experiencing the World Cup in Europe as opposed to the US was obviously different in a great way. Watching France’s opening match in a packed bar in a small village where the only people that spoke any English were me, my wife, and one English expat was a new and fantastic experience.

Fast forward to 2011 and I found myself missing it. Unlike now there was chance to remedy that. Back then ESPN showed Premier League so I watched. As much as I could. Then I figured I’d enjoy it more if I had a team to support. Ideally I wanted a London based team because, who knows, maybe I’d get to see them in person while on a trip visiting the (at that point) fiancés family. But I wasn’t going to force it just for that. So I watched and waited to see if there was a team that would pick me, as opposed to me picking them. I liked the style of the team with the funny name. Then I googled them...London-based, Shakespeare reference, the “Jewish team” (I may only be a bacon cheeseburger eating Jew but it still counts), not taking the easy way and following a front runner. Worth giving them a shot. And like I said previously, I fell for them harder than I ever expected.

So that’s how it happened for me. And through it all I’m thrilled it did. That’s why I miss it now.

But I understand why others feel differently.

I'm missing sport in general

I think the performances Spurs have put in over the last year, 18 months, mean that i have'nt missed football as much as i would have, but i do miss going to the stadium and meeting up with the people who sit around me, some of whom i've known for over 15 years.

Interesting that a number of the responses have been about "football not being important right now." For me that isn't the point.

More than usual many of us have excessive free time but that time is restricted in what we can do with it.

Things I normally do that I currently can't mostly include playing football, watching football, pub, cinema, gym and running club.

Once these things are taken away from me it is the social interaction that I miss. So playing football and the pub I am missing and the cinema and gym but watching football hasn't been a factor for me. Happy enough watching old games and highlights.
