How has Bale done at Real?

To be fair he played twice as many games as James Rodriguez this season.

Given that Rodriguez (£280,000/week) only gets paid half of what Bale gets that seems about right.

It's a weird situation he's got himself in there. I'd imagine he'll come to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as a guest one day and will more than likely get a standing ovation.

Very much doubt he'll ever get that at the ground of the club where he has won 4 CL trophies. Doubt they'll ever consider him a club legend.

There aren’t 24 players in the world better than Gareth Bale

that’s why it’s pathetic

want to win games? at least put him on the bench. not like he’s ever come off the bench to win a CL match before

oh wait....

There is only one Gareth Bale, and as each game goes by he still gets paid fuck loads ,whether he plays or not. Its not his fault he is not getting picked and fair play to him.

No there's 24 players that have the desire to play for the club over Bale, that actually want to be there - Bale has mentally checked out so why so he merit a spot in the squad if he clearly doesn't care?

This isn't FIFA - just because he's good it doesn't mean he deserves to be picked.

Having pondered it, I wouldn't judge him because we don't know anywhere near the full facts but what is clear is that it's a shame he's pissing away two or three years of his career over all this. He hasn't got many of those left.

He’s really letting himself down if this is true. That being said if it’s not the case and Zidane is lying then fireworks could soon start flying. Such a sad situation for one of my all time favourites. As I’m banned from the transfer section I can only guess at how many pages his thread is on now after this. Bring him home Daniel.

No new pages? However for the right price we should sign him.

Zidane is saying 'prefer not to play' and that 'the rest of the conversation is between me and him'..........Reading the article and then reading between the lines, I feel It's a fair bet to assume Zidane told him he wouldn't be involved and Bale responded by saying if that's the case then i'd rather not go. He's hardly been playing so how come this time it's 'prefer not to play'?

Complete guess, but it really wouldn't surprise me if Zidane was bullshitting being a tad devious. Again.

talkSPORT pundit and European football expert Kevin Hatchard now claims all this drama was of Madrid’s making when they pulled the plug on his move last summer.

He told talkSPORT: “He was all set for Jiangsu, they’d sorted that out. It got to a stage where he thought, ‘I’m not going to play, I might as well move on’.

“Real pulled the plug because suddenly they wanted a fee. Jiangsu walked away and said, ‘we sorted this and suddenly you are asking for a fee right at the end’.

“It was a massive mistake because when Zidane came back that was the end of that, because Zidane has been saying for months, ‘it’s best if he goes. I’m not going to use him’.

“All he gets asked about is Bale.

“I thought he would just bat the whole thing away and say, ‘look I’ve chosen the players I’ve chosen’, but he’s actually gone, ‘he doesn’t want to play’.

“I think we all know he wasn’t going to be involved anyway, but it’s interesting he’s done that.

“As a former player that’s an unusual move as there are other players in the squad who will now go, ‘I’m not sure about that’.”

This is such a peculiar situation.
Bale was given a significant pay rise with his last contract.
But since then, he’s been marginalised by Zidane, for reasons unknown. This latest act by Zidane will surely have repercussions. He’s thrown Gareth under the bus by calling him out like this.
(If it’s true)
What’s strange is that, even if it is, surely other players will now question whether they want a private conversation with Zidane, or if he will turn on them in the way he has with Gareth.

Whilst I can see exactly why Gareth hasn’t just upped and left (the Madrid job is a revolving door, so any player can expect at least two managers during the length of their contract), sitting tight and playing the long game seems to have backfired. Zidane won the league so he has all the power.

Gareth needs to leave while he can still play at the highest level, simply to have the success that will prove real, Zidane and their fans wrong.
The game being played by Zidane is spiteful, but Gareth is the only one who can lose now. He won’t get another chance to play at the top level at the end of his contract if he runs it down. His career at the top, despite all the successes, will be remembered for this- the player who took the money not to play.
That just doesn’t do him the justice he deserves.

He's also got nothing to prove. Played as high as he can internationally realistically and won the biggest club competition 4 times for one of the worlds biggest clubs. In the meantime he has secured his and his families future.

Having kids changes people, maybe he lost his ambition or maybe he has just achieved all he wants and is content with his life. I envy that to be honest, must be nice to be able to relax and enjoy a work life balance that suits you.

I would love him to come back to Spurs for one last hurrah but why would you? The only thing I would say is if he wants to be adored but he gets plenty of that with Wales. The man is essentially a hero in his own country so what difference does 60k people cheering or booing you make?

Exactly this. There's a big difference between saying "I prefer not to play" which is what Zidane is saying, and "I prefer not to travel, if I don't have a chance of playing". Zidane has made it clear to Bale he's not getting selected, so why would you want to travel (especially in this covid era where everyone is cautious) to just sit on the bench.

Zidane saying Bale prefers not to play and that the rest of the conversation is personal/private is so disingenuous. If Bale says anything in reply that disputes Zidane he'll likely get fined by the club, who would be looking for any excuse not to pay his mega wages, so all Bale can do is keep quiet, go to training as necessary, and play golf in his spare time just as a F U to Madrid.
